Queensland Safety is Stuffed

Since I've been north all I notice is how pathetic safetyis in queensland! Must be something to do with the WHSO certificate! All you need to be a safety officer here is a five day course! Doesn't matter if you have spent 15 years getting qualified at night after work, you still need a 5 day course run by less qualified people than me!

Seems a total insult but a indirect result of the Safety Institute of Australia not putting enough emphasis on having qualified members. If the body representing safety professionals in Australia doesn't care if people prove they are competent then of course it is reflected in the state legislation.

If people were committed enough to prove they are competent in this country with tertiary qualifications then we would have a dramtic increase in the quality of the service we provide but as it is, The Safety Institute of Australia is bring safety down and it is moving backwards becuase of the unqualified drop kicks it has as members, fellows and Chartered Fellows of the organisation, this is also restricting recognition as a profession as they don't fullfill the requirements to be a profession by allowing unqualified people in.

Article from: AAP

A MAN has been taken to hospital after being injured in an explosion at a Brisbane boatshed.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesman has said the worker had been welding when the explosion occurred about 1.30pm (AEST) today at Cleveland on Moreton Bay.

Fire engulfed the boat and the boatshed, causing significant damage, he has said.

The man was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital where he is being treated for burns to his face and upper body.

Workplace Health and Safety officers are investigating the explosion, which is not being treated as suspicious.
