Safety qualifications!

It has become clear that the reason for the incompetence of the SIA is due to members and above having no safety qualifications! *Note it is good to see the president Mr Geoff Dell being qualified! (not sure what specialty he has though).

I want to ask you all this question! With a Grad Dip in OHSM I do not believe I can practice medicine in any manner or form! So why is it that those with qualification in health are accepted as qualified in safety??????

It is clear that doctors, nurses or other health fields do not know much about safety (from years of studying with them they have no idea) yet the Safety Institute of Australia accepts these qualifications as acceptable to become a member!

That is crap and why so many Australian workers die every year in this country!!!!

My most recent boss had no idea, due to the fact he had been accepted on the qualification in the health field. That is crap too!!!!

And Queenslanders are the worst they think a five day course qualifies people to manage safety over 15 years of safety related qualfications!

A crazy field this safety where they ban people that have many qualifications, 20 years safety experience and allow people with health qualfications to claim they are experts in the field of safety, elevating them to membership of the SIA or higher.

Stop allowing the deaths of up to 5,000 Australian workers by allowing those with passion, experience and qualifications back into the SIA so we can kick out all those incompetent, health care professionals out. If they were any good they would be doctors etc.

Clipsal 500 death highlights the incompetence of the Safety Proffesion in this country

The death of a young V8 driver on the weekend highlights the incompetence of the Safety Profession in this country. We have everybody comming out and investigating the incident from police to the who's who of politics, yet the workplace inspectorate are not involved the SIA keeps quite on the subject.

Well it's simple!!!!!!!

This incident proves what I have been proposing for years! Deaths on our roads are caused by impact with an object that expels the energy to the driver or passengers. In this case it was a concrete barrier!

How about they use some brains and move the barriers back, leaving the corner the same but added a sand trap before the barrier. Simple isn't it, the sand would then absorb a lot of the energy before hitting the barrier.

Oh but that's right the incompetent safety profession will claim it was speed related! It's sad to say but the SIA is way out of touch.

And why isn't the workplace inspectorate involved? It is definately a workplace and drivers are definately paid for working in their profession. It must be too hard for safety people to understand!

Bernie Banton was found to have been murdered!

There is no doubt that James Hardie knew they would kill many people with their products as far back as the 1920's, sure they didn't know the names of the people they would kill but they knew they would make heaps of money out of killing those people.

Bernie Banton's fight must continue to put these murderers in jail! Saddam didn't kill anywhere near as many people as the directors of James Hardie, yet saddam faced the death penalty,

But James Hardie's board of directors face no charges for deliberately murdering hundreds of thousands if not millions of people!

And the polititians scoring political points out of Bernie's death should also face prosecution becuase they did nothing to help him only hindered him with laws to protect their buddies in James Hardie.

The fight must go on and Industrial Manslaughter laws need to be put in place. Even though Manslaughter is accidental and James Hardies actions were never accidental they were deliberately killing people to make money. These directors should face criminal prosecution for murder.

A PASSENGER on the train in which at least 10 people were killed has described hearing the "screaming, crying and moaning" of injured survivors. Seven passengers are unaccounted for.

Twenty-three passengers were injured - 12 of them seriously - when a truck ploughed into a train near Kerang.

According to passenger Sue Fyffe, shaken survivors helped others still in the wreckage and covered in glass.

"All you could hear were people screaming and crying and moaning," Ms Fyffe told Sky news. "It was just awful, it was devastating."

Ms Fyffe said there were no boom gates, only flashing lights at the level crossing.

And she speculated the sun may have got in the truck driver's eyes before the smash. Other sources said the truck appeared to have hit the train in a 'T-bone' collision.

Ms Fyffe was among dozens of passengers sitting by the road waiting to be taken to Bendigo for a medical checkup.

Another witness said the smash appeared to have torn the train in two. ``It looks like a toy train set that was torn apart,'' the witness said.

The train was derailed and mangled in the crash at 1.40pm.

Some passengers told of escaping the full impact because they got up to get cups of coffee moments before.

Others watched in horror knowing the truck was going to hit.

Six patients were airlifted to Melbourne. They included a 15-year-old critically-injured girl flown to the Royal Children's Hospital, an 83-year-old man with spinal and leg injuries and a 40-year-old woman with abdominal injuries to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and a 45-year-old man with suspected head injuries to the Alfred Hospital.

Kerang District Hospital chief Robert Jarman said all available nursing and medical staff had been called in on standby.

The hospital has admitted six patients with serious or moderate injuries.

"We understand there are still a large number of walking wounded out at the site," Mr Jarman said.

The semi-trailer driver survived, with the dead and injured all on board the V/Line train. The truck driver was taken to Mildura Base Hospital with serious injuries. The train's driver also survived.

Three V/Line crew members on the Melbourne-bound train were among the wounded.

"We've got a number of people deceased . . . as you can imagine the scene is pretty confused," a police spokeswoman said earlier.

Premier Steve Bracks and Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky are flying to the scene.

The accident happened at a level crossing on the Murray Valley Highway about 6km northwest of Kerang, Victoria Police said.
The train left Swan Hill bound for Southern Cross Station at 1pm.

A spokeswoman for the Rural Ambulance Service said at least six ambulances from as far away as Mildura had headed for the crash scene.

Two helicopters and three planes headed to the scene to ferry the most seriously-injured to Melbourne.

Police, ambulance, the Country Fire Authority and State Emergency Service are on the scene.

Eric Wrigglesworth must look at this following article and just shake his head.

The truck driver under arrest and the train drivers being investigated for speeding and whether they blew their horn early enough. What about the government official responsible for rail and the designers of the track for not making all crossings by tunnel or bridge so this can't happen, shouldn't they be the first to be arrested and investigated for not removing risks as far as possible?

What would the cost of the crash the injuries the loss of production for the truck and train, the rescue, the transportation of passengers, the recovery of the train and the repair of tracks and train and what is the cost of a tunnel or bridge compared to people's lives, they are just blessed there weren't any deaths.

Driver arrest after Ghan train crash

THE truck driver involved in the derailment of the Ghan passenger train south of Darwin yesterday has been arrested.

A 50-year-old British woman remains in critical but stable condition in Darwin hospital today after she was removed unconscious from the wreckage by rescue workers.

She suffered head injuries and had to be stabilised at the scene before being flown to Darwin in a RAAF search and rescue helicopter.

The truck driver, 57, who suffered suspected spinal injuries, was also taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police have confirmed he has been arrested but has yet to be charged with any offence and will only be interviewed when he is considered well enough.......

Drug wars

I've stated my disgust at the so called war on drugs by our political leaders before and in short, the government has gone to war on a large majority of Australians, which is unhealthy to say the least.

But here is how ridiculous these polititians are, I won't go into detail other than to say marijuana has never caused a death by overdose and most evidence suggest that no one has ever died from using pot.

However becuase of the political gains the polititians keep going to war on marijuana users but at what expense?

We are seeing the results more young people are seeing marijuana usage as socially unaceptable becuase of the lies they believe about it's use as can be evidenced by the previous artical on the drug.

The reason we are not hearing the attepts to stem the use of far more dangerous drugs such as alcohol and more specifically drugs such as GBH, Ecstacy, Crack ice and the like becuase the Government has put it in the too hard basket and instead attacks an easy target that causes little harm such as pot.

What is sad is the number of people now dying becuase of the missguided/lying polititians wanting to make political millege by going to war on marijuana users, when the issue is why are we pushing the kids on these harder drugs?

Sure in a perfect world there would not be any experimental drug use by our young but reality shows they will take drugs no matter what the laws say.

But when the priority focuss and funding is prodominantly against marijuana then there are some serious questions to ask! For example

Why is marijuana funding and enforcement exceding something as the drug Alcohol? We know that Alcohol causes more damage and impairment than all the ellicite drugs combined! So we see the alcoholics are making laws to hide their drug abuse of alcohol and attacking something that provides very little risk.
Why are drugs such as crack ice, ecstacy, GBH now seen as acceptable with our young? Could it be that we playing God have pushed the young onto these dangerous drugs becuase the lies by government making something that is relatively safe into something that is far more dangerous than Alcohol, ICE, GBH and ecstacy! We know these drugs are dangerous and can not only result in death but brain damage and numerous other medical conditions such as brain damage but they are considered safer than marijuana which has none of these effects!
Could it be that organised crime has been in control of our drug laws all along! The only people a war on marijuana benefits is organised crime! Becuase of the laws the price of marijuana is high and profits are good, while also the laws have created a whole new business for organised crime by making drugs such as GBH, Ecstacy, ICE and the like acceptable over marijuana which has increased the market so much for organised crime to make their profits.
Alcohol is shown as the most dangerous drug for mental health, physical health and death yet is legal while many suffer from cancer and many other conditions becuase they cannot use a relatively safe drug such as marijuana forcing them to use morphine, and addictive perscription drugs.

So current laws are causing far more damage than not having laws!

But I suppose if people vote for these polititians then it doesn't matter that our young are dying and becoming mentally ill if the political party wins votes. The problem is they are killing people to win votes.

Family seeks 'positive' from ecstasy death

Just hours earlier, she had left the Good Vibrations music festival at Centennial Park.

Ambulance officers were told the woman, who was showing signs of respiratory distress, had taken MDMA, usually found in ecstasy.

Brother Antony Catt today said family and friends were devastated by the death of "beautiful Annabel".

"We would like everyone to learn from this tragic mistake," Mr Catt said

AN asteroid may be heading our way in 2036.
A group of experts says the United Nations should assume responsibility for a space mission to deflect it.

Astronomers are monitoring an asteroid named Apophis, which has a one in 45,000 chance of striking Earth on April 13, 2036.

Although the odds of an impact are low, a recent plan for NASA to upgrade its tracking of asteroids is expected to uncover hundreds, if not thousands, of threatening space rocks in the near future.

"It's not just Apophis we're looking at," former Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart said.

"Every country is at risk. We need a set of general principles to deal with this issue."

These Scientists seem to have forgotten that God protected this planet with larger planets whose gravitational pull will deflect any asteroids into themselves and then he put an asteroid belt in between earth and the larger planets to sort of act like an RCD device in electricity safety!

So to these scientists stop denying God exists and embrass his perfect creation!

SOME of Victoria's worst sex offenders have viewed sexually explicit films in their cells at Ararat Prison.

Two films in the prison's video library show images of naked children playing and include close-ups of children's genitals, News Ltd reported today.

Sex offenders including pedophile Brian Jones; known as Mr Baldy; child killer Robert Arthur Selby Lowe, convicted of the 1991 murder of Sheree Beasley in 1991; and pedophile former priest Gerard Ridsdale could have had unmonitored access to the films.

News Ltd was advised of the existence of the films through a whistleblower, a prisoner who was in charge of screening movies in the 55-man prison unit.

And the problem is an organisation such as the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne disciplines people who raise concerns about the pornography on their computer network. The managers of this organisation find it acceptable to have pornography on computers in a children's hospital and actually praise that person as being good at health and safety!

Industry wants tax cuts for poor

THE Government should give the nation's poorest workers a tax cut in the May budget, Australia's industry body said.

The Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) wants the Government to cut income tax for those earning $25,000 to $30,000 in half, from 30 per cent to 15 per cent.

The Government also should also refund the 15 per cent tax on employer superannuation contributions into the accounts of low income people and middle income earners aged over 50, Ai Group said today, and increase the amount it will pay under the Superannuation Co-Contribution Scheme.

Ai Group said the Government can pay for the changes by cutting contributions to the Future Fund.

If industry leaders recognise the poor working class in this country then it is pretty bad!

What about those on Dissability or pensions??? They have to live on not much more than $10,000 a year and when you consider a low rental property of say $250 a week (will get you a dump in Queensland with rats, leaking roofs and the like, sure you can complain but the rent will go up that's a certain), that's $3,000 more than recieved so now you can add rent assistance and yes your pension and rent assistance will cover rent but no food, water, electricity or car expenses you can see we have some of the poorest people in the world, living on our streets with so called Christian leaders not helping one bit!

Howard moves to sell off our water to overseas buyers at what cost.

Well John Howard is moving quick to try and control the countries water supplies, in an attempt to sell them off in his next term in office! As he has sold off anything that makes a profit such as Telstra, he will be left with no revenue comming in other than taxes so it is important for him to gain control of water as soon as possible so that the next term the Liberals percieve they have in power, they will also be able to sell off our water supplies with the rest of the country and show a surplus comming into the 2010 elections!

PRIME Minister John Howard said he hopes the looming federal election will not distract state leaders from reaching a solution for Australia's water system.

The premiers will meet with Mr Howard in Canberra again this Friday in an attempt to resolve the Commonwealth's $10 billion takeover plan for the Murray-Darling basin.

The Labor premiers have so failed to reach agreement with the Federal Government over the plan, concerned funding is inadequate and the plans had been rushed.

Mr Howard said today he would listen to the states concerns, but he said state versus federal politics should not get in the way of a genuine solution.

"I do hope that because this is a federal election year politics are not going to get in the way of a sensible resolution," Mr Howard told Channel 9.

A new study by theNational Drug and Alcohol Research Centre
has highlighted the missguided funding appropriated to the program of supporting organised crime by governments in this country by increasing the costs of marijuana so organised crime can make more money.

And the lies by the governments have led to unsupported beliefs such as The drug once perceived as harmless is now overwhelming viewed as dangerous, addictive and linked to a range of serious health and social problems.

The spokesman for the research centre did highlight how wrong these perceptions at the end of the interview stating : The report's only bad news, said Mr Dillon, was that many beliefs people had about cannabis - like the fact it leads to harder drug use - were actually incorrect.

Some of the lies that the Governments especially John Howard has made to protect their organised crime buddies and their profits and believed by those that fail to educate themselves include:

Of the 1500 adult Australians surveyed, three in four felt that smoking dope was dangerous or very dangerous, and half thought it could trigger schizophrenia or anxiety disorders.
Absolute lies and untruths that belong in the 1800's, the truth is that research especially from south Australia but also from all over the world is that marijuana is showing to be beneficial in the treatment of schizophrenia and anxiety!!!! There is no evidence what so ever that marijuana causes schizophrenia!!!
About 40 per cent think cannabis is always addictive, and one in five said it is always a gateway to harder drugs. Again more lies, using this sort of argument you could say that Caffiene is definately the gateway drug as more kids drink a can of coke and go onto heavier drugs than those that try pot and move onto harder drugs or alcohol must be the biggest gateway drug (I do believe this to be true that alcohol is the addictive gateway drug)! The real issue is why the need for any drug and remove those issues and people wont need to take drugs to hide their pain.

The findings also suggest that young people are aligning marijuana with tobacco."Smoking cigarettes is now realistically unacceptable in this country and it might just be that that same attitude has jumped across to cannabis," Mr Dillon said. And of even more concern is the fact that becuase this drug that has an expotentially less degree of risk of addiction compared to something like alcohol, tobacco and heroin and it is made out to be of a higher risk, leads our young to binge drink, and use the new range of drugs such as ice, gbh and the like because the governments don't focuss as much money on these trully dangerous drugs the brainless and those lacking the research see these dangerous drugs as safe compared to the relatively safe marijuana!

And all those using it for medication of pain might as well go on morphine, methotrexate, valium and the like becuase the government isn't protecting their organised crime buddies these drugs are seen as safe by the government, hence their legalisation for medical purposes.

Yet really the government is also protecting the pharmacutical companies with their lies as morphine, methotrexate and the like are highly addictive drugs that destroy internal organs with long term use. But they are Popular!

We are run by criminals making laws so they can go to the doc's and get morphine and the like while those that have serious illness are left with little choice unless they break the law!

Washington, DC -- February 14, 2007 -- By 2011 one in every 178 U.S. residents will live in prison, according to a new report released today by the Public Safety Performance Project of The Pew Charitable Trusts. Public Safety, Public Spending: Forecasting America’s Prison Population 2007-2011 projects that by 2011 America will have more than 1.7 million men and women in prison, an increase of more than 192,000 from 2006. That increase could cost taxpayers as much as $27.5 billion over the next five years beyond what they currently spend on prisons.

“As states continue to struggle with tight budgets and competing priorities among health, education and safety, they are beginning to question whether huge additional investments in prisons are the most effective and economical way of combating crime,” said Susan Urahn, Managing Director of State Policy Initiatives at The Pew Charitable Trusts. “The challenge for state policy makers is to ensure that taxpayers are getting a strong return on their investment in corrections: safer communities, efficient use of public dollars, and ex-offenders who become productive, law-abiding members of society.”

Simple solution is to stop putting people in prison for doing nothing other than smoking a bit of pot! They do no harm to anyone else and there is no evidence to suggest they are even harming themselves!

Pretty simple and cost effective solution hey! Not only that it would free up the police forces to actually takle crime instead of arresting kids and those doing no harm to anyone!

But that won't happen becuase the laws are made to protect organised crimes profits and as such the profits from organised crime are far greater than $27 billion so they will build more jails to protect their criminal mates some of whom are in politics making the laws!

Red-faced police recover lost gun

ADELAIDE police who yesterday recovered an officer's revolver lost during an arrest on Wednesday, say the incident was "embarrassing", but had not put the public at risk.

The loaded Smith and Wesson Model 60 sidearm had been lost in scrub off Murrell Rd at Para Hills for almost 20 hours before being found at 11.30am after a search by police and State Emergency Service volunteers.

The weapon fell from a detective's holster during a foot chase through a gully at 4pm on Wednesday.

Now lets look at these absolute lies in a little detail!

A gun presents no risk!!!!!! What an absolute lie and no wonder there is so much crime when the police force is that corrupt they can blatantly lie!

So we break down the risk factors just to highlight how big a liar is the police force!

If the gun is found by a child and discharges the consequences are????? Worst case scenario multiple deaths! So even if it is quite unlikely this could happen it would still be classed as a high risk or extremely high risk becuase of the consequences!

But we will look at the likelihood too! A gun lost in the scrub in suburbia for 20 hours has a good likelihood of being found and most likely by a kid playing in the scrub! And if a kid found a gun it is quite likely that they would play with it leading to a high likelihood of it discharging.

So given there is a high likelihood that this sort of incident could happen and the consequences could be multiple deaths!

THE RISK FACTOR IS A 'CATASTROPHE'

These police are worse than criminals as they pose as role models yet they are big fat liars, who will corrupt anything to cover their backsides!

The result of law enforcement by speed camera!

More and more we are seeing our police resources replaced by things like speed camera's and security camera's instead of the police presence being the deterent, the criminal just stands out of sight of the camera or hides themselves so they can't be recognised.

So hence there is no deterent to crime now for those who choose that avenue and the results of lack of policing are highlighted in the next article.

THESE frightening scenes - in which bandits point guns and a samurai sword at hotel patrons - have become a daily occurrence in Sydney.
The raid on St Leonards Tavern in Artarmon early yesterday was just another night at work for the armed gangs prowling Sydney.

Two other pubs were hit within an hour of the Artarmon raid, while a hotel security guard was shot on Wednesday night in a separate attack.

But dramatic scenes like those caught on security cameras at the Artarmon tavern and obtained by The Daily Telegraph yesterday have been deemed too legally sensitive by police.

For the past three days, police have repeatedly said they were unable to provide footage of seven other Sydney hold-ups.

The tavern's manager yesterday released the CCTV footage in the hope the public could help identify the attackers.

A second video obtained from a service station last week of a masked gunman robbing the Kogarah business also captured the reality of Sydney's shocking, and increasing, gun crime.

A police spokesman said any footage which could be available today would have the actual crime edited out because it could prejudice future court proceedings.

Such sanitised footage would not show the tavern raid where drinkers enjoying a beer are suddenly plunged into a fight for survival at 1.34am.

During the nine-minute raid, chilling footage shows one patron raising his arms in defence as one of four masked bandits went to swing a samurai sword at him.

A brave manager intervened, standing at the bar and announcing: "I am the manager, I am the one you want."

He was then forced to the tavern's office where the sword-wielding bandit stood over him while he bundled cash into a bag.

The manager yesterday said violent raids on pubs had become so common he was struggling to understand why police had not provided more resources to catch the criminals. He said the "Australian institution" of having a beer at a local pub was under threat.

"These armed gangs go around in (Subaru) WRXs, they robbed two other hotels, it is amazing the police aren't out looking for these types of cars at night," he said.

There were 560 armed robberies at gunpoint in NSW in the year up to September, with the crime rising significantly for the first time in almost five years.

Well those drug addicted polititians and public servants have done it again! Yep Alcohol is a drug and these people can't go without their drug for very long so they are drug addicts!

And now becuase of their bias and wanting people to believe that their drug addiction (alcohol) is not bad have corrupted guidelines made to protect unborn babies and put many in danger because of the polititians drug addiction.

PREGNANT women who follow Government guidelines on alcohol could be putting their babies at risk, the assistant health minister has acknowledged.

The Federal Government is reviewing its national guidelines on alcohol, which set standards on how much people can drink without suffering health effects.

Current National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) guidelines recommend pregnant women drink no more than seven standard drinks in a week and no more than two on any one day.

But opposition parties and peak doctor's group, the Australian Medical Association, last year began a push for the Government to change its guidelines to recommend pregnant women drink no alcohol at all.

AMA president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal said there was no evidence to suggest alcohol at any volume could be drunk safely during pregnancy, and numerous studies showed the harm it could inflict on a developing foetus.

"Women considering pregnancy need to know that there is no known safe level of alcohol consumption," he said.

Sure they make laws against drugs they don't take and then abuse the one's that they leave legal. For example Victoria's Industrial Relations framework was developed while the minister finished off a bottle of scotch.

TELEVISION boss Peter Meakin has hired one of Sydney's top barristers to represent him on a drink-driving charge.

The Seven Network head of news and current affairs postponed his appearance at Manly Local Court in Sydney yesterday until April 16 when Phillip Boulten SC was available for the hearing.

"Mr Phillip Boulten SC is representing him, your Honour, and these are the dates," Mr Meakin's solicitor John Laxon told the court.

"I didn't realise he was seeking counsel," Magistrate Andrew George replied.

The high-profile legal eagle last year represented abortion doctor Suman Sood who escaped jail after she was found guilty of unlawfully administering abortion drugs to a patient who was 23-weeks pregnant.

He also acted for convicted terrorist Faheem Lodhi who was jailed for 20 years.

Mr Meakin has pleaded guilty to a charge of mid-range drink driving after returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.10 at North Narrabeen.

He still faces two charges of driving recklessly and failing to stop for a breath test.

Talking toilets deliver drink-drive warning

A US state is using talking urinals in a bid to get the drink-drive message across to those at risk.

New Mexico's transportation department said today it has put some 500 talking deodorisers in bar and restaurant restrooms in the state in recent days.

"Hey big guy, having a few drinks? Then listen up!" a voice says.

"Think you had one too many? Then it's time to call a cab or call a sober friend for a ride home."

Transportation department spokesman SU Mahesh said the motion-activated devices were part of an attempt to "think outside the box" to tackle drink driving in the state

These sort of devices will just encourage drunks to drink more!!!!!

How about funding police presence at venues instead becuase a drunk will know the talking machine cant follow/persue them when they step in their cars.

Just another politically motivated activity to raise votes by letting people who aren't drinking think that the government is doing something about it when it is really doing nothing but campaigning.

If they actually employed people that know about safety then they would know this is a complete waste of money when it comes to stopping drink driving, although they could argue that it gained votes.

Bob the Builder type accidents

I was promted to write the previous article on Bob the Builder after seeing just 3 properties down a kid riding on the guard of a tractor with his dad driving and a slasher trailing behind, just last week. It should be noted that the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Inspectorate is corrupt and they don't hire people with qualifications and experience as they will know too much. Above is the scene of an accident where a 13 year old died while operating an excavator!

But worse still this relates directly with the Bob the Builder show and the unsafe practices depicted to our kids, who then think machinery is somehow friendly, when in fact it is deadly. This show should take more care with our children and highlight the safe ways to operate equipment not have Bob hanging off the side all the time.

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy died when a mini-excavator he was driving overturned and crushed him yesterday.
The state's safety watchdog said Mt Evelyn boy Blake Aartsen should not have been driving the Mini Kanga excavator in the front yard of his home.

WorkSafe said his death was a tragedy and warned parents not to let children operate machinery.

Blake was killed instantly when the excavator tipped over about 7.30am, while he was helping to landscape the family's garden by shifting piles of gravel.

His father was working just metres away.

Ambulance officers rushed to the West Hill Drive home but could do nothing to save the boy.

Michael Birt, of WorkSafe, said children and machinery were a dangerous mix.

"Every year in Victoria there are many cases where children are seriously hurt working with machinery," he said.

"This is a cautionary tale for all parents. Children and machinery should be kept apart."

Seek This is the Advanced search page, in job classification you need to click on HR, then you go to the sub classification and search OHS.
My Career Again this is the advanced search page, again you need to click on HR Recruitment in Sector and then in the sub sector click on Occup Health and Safety
Career One Again this is a difficult one, but the best way I've found is scroll down to "by Industry" click on HR, Recruitment and Training, it will divide these into groupings and click on Occupational Health and Safety. Warning this is the worst job search engine in Australia for safety jobs anyway and it will give you all sorts of results, you just have to scroll through them one at a time, which I can never be bothered doing as the eyes go blurry trying to work out this out of touch job search, but there are occasionally some good jobs and it could be worth the effort.

There are other ways of searching jobs too!

Smart Jobs There are state government job sites which are pretty good, this one is the QLD state government jobs and you just click on Environment/Health and Safety under catagory. If you are looking in other states just go to the government website of that state.
Ergon Energy Some of the larger employers have their own search engines, in this case I have put Ergon Energies site but organisations such as Ford, Holden, Coca Cola and many others have their own sites just search out the large employers that you know and check their websites.
Local Councils QLD You can check out all the councils in your area, in this instance I have done a search for councils of QLD and you get a listing of all the councils and their websites which the majority have job listing on. If you are in other states just do a search for local councils adding the state you want.
Hays Recruitment you can also search all the recruitment agencies and their search engines, in this instance I have listed Hays for an example but there are many other recruitment agencies There are many others so do your own search and find recruitment agencies in your area.

Hopefully this helps you in your job search, these are just some examples to help and you will find there are many other avenues once you start searching.

Just don't give up, keep trying and you will eventually gain employment if you have the will and the skills.

Road Safety - Statistics.

Wow in one of the driest years Victoria recorded 6 less deaths on our roads for the 12 month period, yet I'm sure there are some still in coma's that will add to that figure at some stage.

But it will be interesting to see what happens to their statistics when they get an extended wet period as has been experience in Queensland in the last 24 hours with a spike in the the number of deaths coinciding with the extended wet period (a blessing however for all that need water).

Perhaps an extended wet period around the country will lead to a spike in the statistics and we will be able to compare it with the last year there was a extended wet period and actually see how bad/good they are managing road safety.

In fact we should have statistics broken down to coincide with weather pattens, temperatures and conditions such as rain.

And then we could run some accurate comparisons to see if any initiatives have been succesful or on the other hand wether we are over regulating leading to actual increases in road tolls.

Bob the Builder - Safety Menace

Isn't it great when you've got a 2 yr old you get to watch all the great shows such as Thomas the Tank, Wiggles and the like but Bob the Builder has taken the cake as the safety menace of the kids shows.

I often wondered where those farmers got their entrenched practices of letting kids ride on the guards of the tractors, or those loader operators and the entrenched practices of having people around the operations.

It comes from Bob the Builder!

Yep all the people including Bob ride around on the guards of tractors, loaders, trucks and the like!

This sort of show is totally counteractive to developing a safety culture in our workplaces, which include farming.

Bob the Builder entrenches unsafe behaviour in our kids before they are even old enough to explain it is wrong.

No wonder those farmers are so hard to convince it is unsafe to let children ride with them! Farmers never grow up! lol

But the serious point is the amount of children that are run over by their parents, grand parents becuase they are riding on equipment with children! The worst I seen was a 7 year old girl run over by a slasher operated by her father, there were pieces of her all over the paddock and caught up on the fences!

Bob the Builder should be banned or redesigned to show safe operation of machinery and equipment!

As it is it has a negative educational impact teaching unsafe behaviour and the only reason it is on T.V. is to make someone money at the cost of health and safety of not only the young but those that never grow mentally.

DOZENS of corrupt Victorian police faced dismissal and criminal proceedings, the Office of Police Integrity (OPI) has confirmed.

The OPI has told Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon it has evidence against officers involved with serious crimes including drug dealing, stealing and associating with criminals, News Limited newspapers reported today.

The OPI would recommend action within six months against another batch of police it has compiled further evidence on, the report said.

Ms Nixon said she enjoyed a close relationship with the OPI and would follow up on its latest recommendations that she take disciplinary action against dozens of police the OPI had investigated.

OPI director George Brouwer yesterday rejected claims from former Royal Commission chief Donald Stewart that Victoria's police force was riddled with “deep-seated and continuing corruption”.

We wouldn't have so much corruption if laws were fair, for example if pot was legal especially for those with illness then there wouldn't be the markets for the police to be corrupted in!

I've stated many times that the only benefit banning drugs like marijuana have is to increase the profits of organised crime and pharmacutical companies are the biggest drug dealers who are protected from the laws making $billions by pushing things like morphine and valium over something that is safe and can be grown for free (if the government can't make a profit they ban something beneficial)

But worse is how these laws are used to discriminate! Yep it's only those that the authorities don't like (no other reason) that are busted!

Look at Bill Clinton! He should have been prosecuted for admitting using illegal drugs and had his house confiscated and other assessts removed or blocked as he not only used pot but admitted to it! Then we have George Bush who doesn't deny using illegal drugs which is an admission.

But now we have more people running in politics that admit to using illegal drugs! How can they be so hypocritical?

But a generation later there seems to be less bashfulness about the topic and controlling the message appears to be the key.

Barack Obama, the Democratic senator who has formally announced his bid to become America's first black president, long ago admitted taking both cannabis and cocaine while he was a teenager.

In a 1995 memoir, Dreams From My Father, he wrote: "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack [heroin] though."

Mr Obama has also stressed his activities were part of a youthful behaviour he has long left behind and which he does not condone

So it's acknowledged it is part of youthful behavior!!!! That makes it alright then does it while millions of youth are prosecuted for being youthful!

And then you take medical conditions into account and someone can't use something like marijuana for pain management and all the other medical benefits to help with quality of life but a president of the United States can use marijuana for youthful behaviour.

Proves what I'm saying hey the pharmacutical companies control drug law to increase their profits at the expense of our youth and ill, injured and sick!

Recyled Water

This is the biggest crap issue I have read about in recent times.

For governments to claim recycled water is safe, reminds me of 20 years ago and chemical sales people would claim you can drink their toxic poisons, in fact some of the sales reps actually did drink a poison in front of workers and claim it was safe.

Likely they died early in life!

And to have polititians repeating this sort of sick behaviour by drinking recycled water and claiming it's safe is absolutely disgusting!

For one sure when a recycle plant is new it may produce safe drinking water but the problem lies further down the track when older plants don't work so efficiently and if your in safety you will understand that when equipment becomes used it does not work as efficiently as when it was new!

With the older plants and cost cutting there will be toxic spills into our drinking supplies this is 100% certain.

I can say it's certain becuase we can't even get the Safety Institute of Australia to ensure that members are qualified and competent.

And if we can't get our safety leaders to get their skills to a minimum level there is no hope of getting systems in place in these recycle plants that won't fail!

So poluting our water supplies with recycled water only benefits those making money our of water to the detriment of those using or drinking water. And then surveys are claiming 78% acceptance by Australians for recycled drinking water.

A great big lie by governments to push their agenda of selling off our water supplies as there is no way people would support toxic drinking water.

Abusive Women in our workplaces or maybe it's the homosexuals

Workers for Queensland rail have been warned not to take men's magazines into the workplace. Magazines such as FHM, Zoo Weekdly, People and Picture workers are warned they are risking their jobs if they brang that sort of magazine on site.

Now this is also an all male workplace which makes this ruling even more hypocritical!

Yet there are no mentions of banning Women's Weekly, Women's Day, Cosmopolitan or any of the many offensive and discriminatory magazines women read!

Worse there is not one mention of banning homosexual magazines which are offensive in the extreme!

This is an attack on the basic rights of freedom of speech! People should be allowed to read what they enjoy and for management to want to control what their workers read is a disgrace and belongs with Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

So Queensland Rail is run by Nazi's it appears from this sort of ban. And what's next ban the bible, the Koran and just read Queensland Rail propaganda which is full of miss truths and uneducated opinions from the likes of the Safety Institute of Australia.

Water Crisis! Excuse to sell off more of Australia

The Federal Governments and all Governments for that matter in this country treat the people like idiots!

Currently the Federal government is moving towards taking control of our water resources with the support of the State Governments!

And the big question is why?

Simple, whenever the Federal Government takes control of an Australian entity it sells it off, even though the people own it, the government sells it off then claims they are good financial managers becuase of the billions made from the sales, eg telstra!

But to highlight how advanced the plans are to sell our water supplies, governments are preparing us for increases of 100% or more in our water prices.

Obvious that it is being prepared to gain the highest price from the biggest bidder.

Yet we see overseas the results of lack of water or probably more relevant the lack of money to purchase water. Yep selling our water off will make it more acceptable for our poor in this country to not be able to drink, shower or any other activity requiring water.

And then they die, and John Howard jumps up and down in joy becuase that is one less person he has to support becuase they died.

Education sucks in Australia unless your rich

Sorry I haven't posted for a fair while. Been enjoying the kids company over the holidays and getting involved in voluntary activities to give back a little to the community so please forgive me.

One of the most important issues in the countries mental and economic health has to be education and with schools in queensland banning students from attending classes if their parents haven't been able to afford fees, we are seeing the result of not providing education to our poorest children with more and more drug use and people being put in jail.

Isnt it sad that our young kids cannot get an education in this country if their parents are struggling financially.

For example I get a DSP and my wife parenting payments which add up to just over $600 a week, take out $230 a week for rent (is going up shortly), we try and keep our food budget to just over $200 a week probably averages $230, then fuel to drop kids off and doctors appointments at around $80 a week, then there are medications at around whatever I can afford that is left, a specialist visit is around $160 a pop and massage and physio are well over $50 so I live in pain most of the time as it's obvious I cannot afford medical treatments.

Add rego, tyres, school fees and books and uniforms and you can see there is no way of affording to live in this country with any dignity or security, if you are unfortunate enough not to be able to work for whatever reason.

So for schools to ban kids from attending becuase their parents are poor is sooooo wrong and all it does is keep these kids in the cycle of poverty so the rich can become better off (yep the CEO's get more and more and company profits get greater and greater).

And then we see prisoners getting free education! Becuase they are poor a lot revert to crime and then get the education but if they had an education in the first place maybe we could stop a lot of them going to prison in the first place.

But that is the corrupt society we live in where the rich cry poor and the poor don't eat.

The Test the Unqualified Members/Fellows/Ch Fellows found too hard to take.

I've given safety presentations and training to all sectors of the working world, from Pollititions and Senior Executives of organisations to Line Managers, farmers and voluntary organisations and just about everyone variation in between.

Yet the hardest were always given in a classroom gaining qualifications and proving competence in front of my peers in safety, those I respect and admire the knowledge they have (my class mates and lecturers).

Those leading the Safety Insitute in the form of members, fellows and chartered fellows that are not qualified shouldn't be in those positions becuase of that one reason they haven't passed the toughest test there is and to answer questions from people that just want to learn just like you is an absolute priveledge they have missed out on besides the fact they haven't proven they are competent enough to be classed as professionals and therefore bring down the status of safety and it's recognition as a profession.

Late-night feed costs workers their jobs

A LATE-night feast on free burgers cost a group of McDonald’s employees their jobs after the restaurant manager called in police.

Former counter employee Jessica Marie Mueller, 17, appeared in Caloundra Magistrates Court yesterday to face a stealing charge for giving away $15 worth of burgers and drinks.

Until last month Mueller had been a model employee, maintaining a spotless customer service record during her two years working at the Caloundra McDonald’s Family Restaurant.

But that changed on Saturday, December 9, as Mueller and her night shift colleagues began preparing to close for the night.

About 10.30pm a group of her friends who had been out drinking walked into the restaurant.

Among the group were her brother and a number of McDonald’s employees who were not rostered on that night.

They asked Mueller for something to eat and she handed them burgers from the display shelf along with some drinks.

Duty lawyer Donna Lucas explained Mueller had assumed the burgers would be thrown out at the impending end of the shift so saw no harm in giving them away.

So what morals are they teaching these kids??? To be relentless in the pursuit of profits and take no consideration of the person!!

How about understanding these are young people who's impression of employers is going to be moulded in these younger years and as the incident wouldn't have cost the organisation anything how about teaching them the power of understanding and teach them what is right and wrong??

Such a sad impression to leave on young lives no forgiveness and the only thing that matters is profits and power!

The damage this sort of irresponsible behaviour McDonalds has undertaken is one major reason we have such high incidence of drug abuse in our society, instead of understanding our young will make mistakes they believe they should be perfect! A great big pffffffffttttttttttt

How they expect anyone to believe they have people's best interests in regards to health is beyond me when they can't even recognise the importance of the young's mental health that work for them.

Macrophage proves Gods existence and creation

I love studying safety becuase it shows that evolution is a total lie! And nothing highlights the lie of evolution more than the human macrophage system.

I will write more on the macrophage system for those Safety Insitute people that haven't the knowledge to get a qualification.

Macrophages are cells within the tissues that originate from specific white blood cells called monocytes. Monocytes and macrophages are phagocytes, acting in both nonspecific defence (or innate immunity) as well as specific defense (or cell-mediated immunity) of vertebrate animals. Their role is to phagocytize (engulf and then digest) cellular debris and pathogens either as stationary or mobile cells, and to stimulate lymphocytes and other immune cells to respond to the pathogen

My main studies were the macrophage system of the lungs and especially how our lungs are protected from toxins and foreign particles by the macrophage system.

But when we look more deeply into macrophages we find they are prevalent in the bodies entire immune system, to the point where they even play a big part in the development of diseases such as HIV and cancer.

Due to their role in phagocytosis, macrophages are involved in many diseases of the immune system. For example, they participate in the formation of granulomas, inflammatory lesions that may be caused by a large number of diseases.

Some disorders, mostly rare, of ineffective phagocytosis and macrophage function have been described.

Macrophages are the predominant cells involved in creating the progressive plaque lesions of atherosclerosis.

When fighting influenza, macrophages are dispatched to the throat. However, until the killer T cells for the flu virus are found, the macrophages do more damage than help. They not only destroy throat cells infected with the flu virus but also destroy several surrounding non-infected cells.

Macrophages also play a role in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Like T cells, macrophages can be infected with HIV, and even become a reservoir of ongoing virus replication throughout the body.

Macrophages are versatile cells that play many roles. As scavengers, they rid the body of worn-out cells and other debris. Foremost among the cells that "present" crucial role in initiating the immune response. As secretory cells, monocytes and macrophages are vital to the regulation of immune responses and the development of inflammation; they churn out an amazing array of powerful chemical substances (monokines) including enzymes, complement proteins, and regulatory factors such as interleukin-1. At the same time, they carry receptors for lymphokines that allow them to be "activated" into single-minded pursuit of microbes and tumor cells

And hence the proof of God as the creator! How do I come to this conclusion you may ask?

God designed our bodies to protect themselves from illness and he did it perfect as we can see in the bible people lived to 800 years or more before sin became so prevalent.

And the creation of the macrophage system is no accident as claimed by evolutionists and their crap theories about the big bang and evolution.

If there was such a thing as evolution, the macrophage system would have continued to evolve we would be living longer and longer with less and less illness and disease.

But as can be seen with the increase in cancer for one that the macrophage system is not evolving but de-evolving and when we look at illness such as HIV, SARS and hundreds of other illness and disease we can be totally sure that the macrophage system is de-evolving, not evolving as the evolutionists suggest.

And becuase of sin and the turning away from God the human body will continue to de-evolve!

Proof of God's creation is everywhere we just have to open our eyes.

Again we find the news services have better statistics on road fatalities than the law enforcement bodies.

How pathetic is that? I would believe a big part is due to the police and law makers incompetence with focussing on behavioural change instead of designing safer roads!

And you look at the statistics that are published, their only criteria for causing accidents is Speed, Alcohol, lack of concetration and tiredness! Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic, What about unroadworthy vehicles, including worn tyres and brakes, trees placed on outsides of corners, poles placed on the sides of roads (including speed cameras), road conditions, weather conditions (black ice is deadly), to things like wearing thongs when driving and the reduction in reaction times from poor footwear, etc etc etc etc etc etc

Yep there are many factors but the statistics are in place to cover the incompetence of those leading safety, not only in this country but accross the world. I guess I'll never get a job again in safety becuase I will speak the truth, instead of these blatant lies and as we know someone who is in a responsible postion in safety without a qualification must definately be a liar, how else do they get the job becuase they aren't good enough to get a qualification but good enough to lead the SIA. Pfffftttt

Victoria is a great example with it's drug testing for marijuana, there is no evidence to suggest that marijuana presents any increase in risk for drivers yet the safety people in that state and accross Australia continue to focuss on something that is politically motivated and will not save lives, just make revenue for the government.

I guess if they make enough crap laws they will remove enough drivers to show a slight reduction in the road toll due to less drivers, but they will not save lives untill they start focussing on the objects that release the energy as anybody who had a little committment and a fair knowledge of safety would know.. But as we know with the SAfety Institute of Australia you don't need to know anything and show competence with a qualification becuase the SIA is not about saving lives but ensuring they get good paying jobs at the expense of those with knowledge and have proved their competence.

Safety is sooooooo corrupt in this country, those leading the Safety Institute of Australia claim they haven't had time to get a qualification becuase qualifications have only been around 30 years, well I say that 30 years is time aplenty to get a qualification and it just proves those without qualifications have been running and hiding so no one finds out they know nothing about safety and have never done anything to save lives.

Road Safety - ........

Seems the Safety Experts? have decided to cover up their blatant lack of knowledge in safety by focussing on in Car DVD Players! While I'm not going to debate the merit as I believe they are a distraction, I want to highlight the total hypocrasy of these uneducated and unknowledgeable safety people.

Just look at mobile phones they present the major distraction to drivers, yet nothing is done! It would be easy to have mobiles not accept or make calls when travelling over 15km/h but becuase these safety experts lack knowledge or any guts to present the honest truth mobile phones will continue to distract.

And the latest expert on the T.V. is claiming it is more important for young drivers to have 100% concentration when driving, while commenting on DVD players. Well that just shows how arrogant these safety experts are, especially the SIA leaders who fail to keep these comments in check but ban those that have the committment to get a qualification.

Well I tell this expert that it is important that all drivers commit 100% concentration to driving, not as he says young drivers. But that is a reflection of the Safety Institute of Australia's attitude, they believe when they are experienced they are good at something, to the extent they don't think they need to concentrate as hard as a young driver.

Pathetic the lot of them! The Safety Institute of Australia believes that experience counts for everything, well I tell you I've seen scores of safety officers that have been doing the job for 20 years yet they have no idea about safety and saving lives.

The Safety Institute of Australia will go to extreme measures to protect their incompetence and anybody finding out how pathetic they are by banning those with qualifications that speak up! Instead of removing those that cannot get a qualification and show they are competent as they expect from the rest of the workforce.

Someone should start prosecuting unqualified safety people who claim they are professionals, we could start with fraud becuase we know you cannot be a professional at anything without a qualification but the SIA continues to protect it's club of sucks.

If we had a Real Safety Institute of Australia

We could have answers to questions like, what effect men clipping their nasal hairs for vanity purposes has on exposure to dusts especially toxic dusts such as asbestos, silica, ceramic fibres etc.

But we could also have detailed statistics on incidents in the workplace, giving useful information to identify risks. But not rely so heavily on lost time incidents and the like which is pretty useless information that only hides the truth.

We would have detailed road statistics that not focuss on a predertermained outcome such as speed but show every detail such as depth level of tyre tread at the time of loss of control, or the footwear someone was wearing, for example thongs I believe cause a great number of road accidents becuase of the dely in response time moving from accelarator to brake and even times they get caught on the base of the brake.

There are thousands of other factors that are not included in road statistics in an effort to justify the revenue being raised from speed camera's and drug testing and the like, some other examples would be the condition and wear level of brakes of vehicles involved in incidents, the condition of the stearing components, all the way to oil leaks that could have resulted in an unbalanced vehicle and contributing to the loss of control.

Not to mention the factos of trees, poles, other stationary objects, pedestrians and the ability to have head on's being responsible for the release of energy after a loss of control. But when people with ideas outside the norm are banned how can these questions even be investigated?

And when a predetermained outcome to accident investigations biased the findings we will never significantly reduce the road toll, even with the dramatic improvements to vehicle safety design.

But again without an educated Safety Institute of Australia there will never be the acceptance of knowledge that can save lives but only a power struggle and failure to take hold of the opportunity God has given to save lives.

You have to wonder just how much people like Peter Costello recieve from organised crime to continue their attack on marijuana, given it's relative low risk in our society! But organised crime is certainly reaping the benefits of people self medicating becuase the legal alternatives are addictive and harmful to health.

I'm sure this organised crime is funding political parties apposed to it's decriminalisation! And polititians like Peter Costello know this clearly as they manage the parties funds and in a push for more funding for organised crime they come out before an election and campaing against marijuana!

MARIJUANA is the most lucrative cash crop in the US according to a study by a group campaigning for the substance's decriminalisation.

The study by the Washington-based Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) argued that successive crackdowns against marijuana had been unsuccessful.

The report said using conservative price estimates, the marijuana crop was worth $US35.8 billion (45.9bn) this year - exceeding the combined value of corn ($US23.3bn) and wheat ($US7.45bn).

The report said that despite eradication campaigns which have seen 103 million marijuana plants seized and an average of nearly 36,000 cultivation sites per year destroyed, production increased tenfold between 1981 and 2006 from 1000 to 10,000 tonnes.

Safety Institute of Australia needs to take responsibility for Coroner's ignorance

It totally disgusts me that a hugely profitable organisation such as Seahaven resorts gets away with manslaughter of a teenage girly with no one facing charges and a pathetic fine of $7500 being the only penalty!

The Safety Institute of Australia should take responsibility in failing to educate the coroners of this country in accepted practice and law but then if they are uneducated how can they educate the coroner's, things need to change at the SIA to remove all unqualified people from membership, fellowship and chartered fellowship immediately for Safety to be recognised as a profession and people to listen.

As an example the coroner called for Australian Standards to be adhered to! Well if he had any knowledge then he would understand that the Standards are a minimum and when our legislation calls for risks to be mitigated, it is practical when there is already documented evidence on how to do this and the coroner ignores this as a non compliance with the OHS legislation (in this case the WHS Legislation).

What makes this even more hypocritical is experience, the last prosecution I saw was a farmer that had run over his 7 year old and splattered her over the paddock, it's not enough that the farmer was suffering enough but the prosecutors are directed to prosecute so it becomes public knowledge but when it comes to a rich organisation such as Seahaven this approach is totally ignored. Something totally stinks in this case.

No blame in spa death - coroner

A CORONER has found no one should face charges over the death of a teenage girl after her hair became entangled in spa pump at a resort on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

But deputy Queensland coroner Ray Rinaudo made a series of recommendations to try to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.

Amanda Helen Boyce, 13, was on holiday with the family of a school friend at the Seahaven Resort at Noosa Heads when the accident happened in December 2001.

An inquest in Brisbane Magistrates Court was told Amanda and two friends were using the resort's spa.

Amanda, who had waist-length hair, put her head under water and got it tangled in pipes at the base of the spa.

Despite the efforts of many people, including a doctor and lifesavers, she was unerwater for up to 20 minutes and never regained consciousness.

Her life support was turned off in Brisbane Royal Children's Hospital four days later.

A senior principal adviser with the Department of Workplace Health and Safety found the accident occurred because of a combination of design and operational deficiencies with the spa.

Seahaven Resorts has already pleaded guilty to breaching workplace health and safety regulations and been fined $7,500.

Today, handing down his findings in the case, Mr Rinaudo found that no one should stand trial over the death.

However he made a number of recommendations to ensure public spa pools were safer.

These included that they comply with the relevant Australian standard, that public spa pool owners control the suction pipe flow velocity, fit a pressure gauge to the pump suction, and fit emergency spa pool pump stops and alarms.

What a pathetic coroner (or corrupt) that investigated this case! If they had knowledge of the legislation they would realise that the standard gives a clear example of mitigating this risk which is what the overidding Act calls for yet the coroner has ignored their is even a Act!

Marijuana - There must be an election comming

Seems Peter Costello has started cluching at straws to try and divert attention away from the real issues for the election next year.

Yep he is making all these unsubstantiated claims about the harm marijuana causes! Well Mr Costello we know this is a furphy designed to alienate somewhere between 20% and 30% of the population distracting them from the real issues of the next election, such as global warming, homelessness in Australia, youth suicide etc etc, all brought on by the Howard government selling Australia off to foreign interests and implementing IR laws that give the worker no control over their wellbeing.

If we look at Wikipedia and the abundance of information posted we find marijuana is in the lowest catagory of addiction:
A 1998 French governmental report commissioned by Health Secretary of State Bernard Kouchner, and directed by Dr. Pierre-Bernard Roques, classed drugs according to addictiveness and neurotoxicity. It placed heroin, cocaine and alcohol in the most addictive and lethal categories; benzodiazepine, hallucinogens and tobacco in the medium category, and cannabis in the last category. The report stated that "Addiction to cannabis does not involve neurotoxicity such as it was defined in chapter 3 by neuroanatomical, neurochemical and behavioral criteria. Thus, former results suggesting anatomic changes in the brain of chronic cannabis users, measured by tomography, were not confirmed by the accurate modern neuro-imaging techniques. Moreover, morphological impairment of the hippocampus [which plays a part in memory and navigation] of rat after administration of very high doses of THC (Langfield et al., 1988) was not shown (Slikker et al., 1992)." Health Secretary Bernard Kouchner concluded that : "Scientifical facts show that, for cannabis, no neurotoxicity is demonstrated, to the contrary of alcohol and cocaine."[9]

Yet in Mr Costello's support for pharmacutical profits he totally ignores the benefits of marijuana in medical applications, highlighting the dependance of the government on profits made from getting people addicted to substances like morphine, valium etc etc which are in the highest addiction catagory!

What a corrupt polititian Mr Costello is to totally ignore the sick and infirmed from being able to legally use something that will benefit their lives and instead yeild to the pharmacutical companies and their awesome profits, maybe he gets a cut? But certainly the government does from taxes and the like for which Mr Costello is treasurer so even if he doesn't recieve a direct cut from getting patietns addicted to morphine and like he certainly gains a huge benefit, making him corrupt in the highest degree by alienating people with illness such as cancer, MS, glucoma, arthritis, and hundreds of other pain related illnesses.

It is even shown to be an effective anti inflammatory but the government would rather us take Vioxx and the like causing heart disease so they can make $billions in taxes from peoples deaths.

The worst part is a lot of people believe his unsubstaintiated lies! And these people with illness will find out how addictive the alternatives are and how violent they make people, for example morphine makes you indistructable and violent and when you are on it you do not realise how violent and abusive you become becuase everything seems normal to the taker (from 3 years experience 140mg a day) but this is legal so the pharmacutical companies and governments can make their $billions.

Some of the benefits even include it as an effective treatment to Alzhiemer's disease oh but that wouldn't make the government money would it so they won't legalise it for medical purposes. In 2006 a study[10] was released that shows THC to competitively inhibit AChE and, furthermore, binds to the AChE PAS and diminishes β-amyloid peptide aggregation. These effects have been the goal of Alzheimer’s medication since the discovery that there was an association between the AChE PAS and Alzheimer’s disease[11]. The study concludes that AChE inhibitors such as THC and its analogues may provide an improved therapy for Alzheimer’s disease, but warns that THC is a psychoactive compound.

Oh and all these safety people who lack any relevant knowledge to safety will use drug testing to justify their jobs but as can be shown by statistics drug testing for marijuana does not save one life! It is just used as a tool to keep in the safety field that they don't belong in becuase if they knew anything about safety they would recognise the statistical information showing it actually decreases the risks of injury. But it also diverts attention from the real killer in our workplaces and on our roads that being alcohol and note alcohol is far more addictive that marijuana will ever be and shrinks the brain with long term use. (hypocritical safety institute of australia to blame for that, the majority will all be drinking at the Christmas parties)

Cancer has shown many times over two hundred years of research on cannabis to actually show a slight decrease in lung cancer rates over the general population even though smoking is the most common form of use! I quoted studies from the 60's showing this with large research groups in both Canada and West Indies but as governments and pharmacutical companies are pumping $billions into research to try and find a down side to marijuana's medical use I will quote the latest study showing a decrease in cancer: Cannabis smoke contains numerous compounds known to cause cancer [5],[6], [7]. Surprisingly, however, scientific studies have failed to show higher cancer rates in cannabis smokers. A study published in 2006[35] on a large population sample (1,200 people with lung, neck, or head cancer, and a matching group of 1,040 without cancer) failed to positively correlate a lung cancer risk, in fact the results indicated a slight negative correlation between long and short-term cannabis use and cancer, suggesting a possible therapeutic effect. This followed an even larger 1997 study[36] examining the records of 64,855 Kaiser patients (14 033 of whom identified themselves as current smokers), which also found no positive correlation between cannabis use and cancer.

Again the lies are exposed from Mr Costello!

As for road safety statistics out of the ACT suggest cannabis users are actually at a slightly less risk of a serious accident!!! And research backs this up from the U.K. and as we haven't heard from Swinbourne University I suggest their research backs these finding that cannabis users are at no greater risk than the general public when driving!!!! The effects of cannabis on laboratory-based tasks show clear impairment with respect to tracking ability, attention, and other tasks depending on the dose administered. These effects however, are not as pronounced on real world tasks, like driving or simulator tasks. Both simulation and road trials generally find that driving behavior shortly after consumption of larger doses of cannabis results in: a more cautious driving style; increased variability in lane position (and headway); and longer decision times. Whereas these results indicate a 'change' from normal conditions, they do not necessarily reflect 'impairment' in terms of performance effectiveness since few studies report increased accident risk.

Drug testing for marijuana is morally wrong because The total duration of cannabis intoxication when smoked is about 1 to 4 hours. Yet drug testing can reveal it's use weeks or even months later making the drug test invalid for the purpose of safety, sure if someone was off their face while performing a dangerous task it may be seen as reasonable to stop this behaviour but someone using the night before or on the weekend being caught up in these drug tests is ridiculous and given the proven low risk of those off their face it would even be debatable whether they posed any greater risk anyway.

So Mr Costello stop lying about a beneficial drug and do something positive by pushing for it's legal medical use over the addictive and highly dangerous substitutes the Pharmacutical companies keep pushing on those with an illness!

And the Safety Institute of Australia should be absolutely disgusted in it's workplace drug testing push especially focussed on marijuana as it shows no increased risk! But then as I've said the Safety Institute is run by people who haven't the committment to safety to even get a qualification that proves they are competent so they will have to keep down this track to cover up the corruption of banning people who have the committment!

Road Safety - The Most Important Thing to teach a young male

Having been a young male once I would believe the most important thing we can teach the young males, that we have gained from driving is not to get pissed off when driving.

Things like being cut off, or someone driving at you with high beam on, or someone doing the wrong thing that makes you have to react, a pedestrian stepping out in front of you, probably another is someone passing you and then slowing down and there are heaps of other things that can aggitate you when driving.

As soon as they fire up and get that testosterone running their decisions become errational, the car becomes less important and loosing their own life is probably the last thing on their mind (that invincibilty factor).

So forgiveness, understanding and patience of others is what is required to be taught the most important thing we learn from experience, and should be what is taught first and foremost.

Factors such as speed while relevant do not deserve the attention we get especially with our low speed limits. Innapropriate speeding would be more important such as in side streets, residential areas, shopping areas and school zones or where there may be pedestrians for example.

Getting busted for overtaking someone on a straight stretch of road is ludicruous and is what makes a mokery of the speed debate, the shorter period on the wrong side of the road the better (within reason, 200k would be unreasonable for example).

The presence of police on our roads is far more effective than speed camera's especially where they are hidden and you get the ticket in the mail a couple of weeks later, that has not reduce the speed of anyone.

Computers do not make decisions factoring in the circumstances as a police officer would and you are booked if you are 4k over the limit not matter what the circumstance.

So the focuss must move away from speed and move towards teaching the young how they are effected if they get pissed off. And as I've said before focuss on teaching the risks of driving that aren't taught such as trees, poles, objects that can be hit, poorly designed roads that put their lives at risk each day just getting on them, etc.

Terror Attack

Some of you may have read my theories on terror attacks on the SIA website and Workplace Health and Safety Website to name a couple. They relate to terrorists using virus to communicate and the increased activity before a terror attack.

Well I haven't seen so many updates to my virus software since the World Trade Centre attack!

And in the last week and a bit my spyware and adaware software has also had more updates in recent weeks than I can remember.

Given that information I believe there will be a major terrorist attack in a Western country in the comming weeks. Given Islams hate for Christians I would believe it to be right at Christmas!

Be sad if my theory is right but I feel the need to warn people.

Australia to become more and more violent and polititians can only blame themselves

There will be no peace while we have poverty!

That is common knowledge but to show how ignorant John Howard and his state mates are, we see things like electricity, gas, phone, and the like increasing dramatically far above the cost of living estimates.

Yet these things are the basis for the poor to survive so the cost of living estimates are totally out of balance when it comes to the poor as those increases eat up far more of the income of the poor than those that have jobs and especially the highly paid.

And now things like drinking water that should be free are having fees proposed that make it possible for goverments to kill off the poor, becuase without water they die.

You cannot get free education or low cost education so the poor have no chance of changing their circumstances and getting work so they will continue to be poor. As an example I would love to do the blue card and Cert 4 in training and assessment to get back into the workplace but at nearly $3,000 on the pension there is no way of this being possible and this is through government run and sponsored TAFE's.

So with this sort of policy by our governments there will be a continuing escalation of violence in this country and the polititians only have themselves to blame for making laws that help the rich get richer and keep the poor downtrodden.

Come to Nambour QLD to see corruption in Safety Enforcement

Well it's clear after applying for inspectors positions in the Nambour Region that the enforcement of health and safety is corrupt! No response whatsoever! Even worse when a complaint is made they will pass the complaint to a non government agency and wipe their hands of it.

And to highlight the fact a relatively new shopping development ended in the death of a person working in sales! A gate fell on this person and she was killed as most would be aware of, yet this gate had malfunctioned for months before and because of the lack of enforcement there were no systems for this to be reported and further repaired.

But then you look around the area and see the failure of enforcement everywhere, people working on roads with no road management (my house), people dying and being trapped in trench collapses and many other easily preventable deaths.

It's pathetic but when the enforcement arm has jobs for mates and doesn't even respond to those that make the effort to apply for the positions it highlights the failures of this government department.

More Lies by power companies highlight the risks faced by nuclear power

Just to highlight how power companies and governments will lie about risks to make money can be demonstrated with John Howard proposing Nuclear Power for Australia yet there is no way of disposing of nuclear waste effectively!

And just to highlight the lengths these lies will go to for a profit can be seen in a recent experiment in Switzerland. Managers of this experiment claim there is no danger!!

They injected water at high pressure into the earths crust 5 km down and caused an earthquake of 3.4 on the ricter scale.

Now if a earthquake presents no danger, I'll go he! Typical of safety and science at the moment deny all risk if there is a profit to be made.

But I say an earthquake presents a huge risk and if this small scale experiment is escalated then they could potentially destabalise the entire earths crust.

Why our legislators won't teach young drivers about the risks!

There is a new series of young driver training around QLD and guess what they won't focuss on all the risks on our roads becuase of one thing! Raising revenue and if they told you the truth (if the uneducated safety profession knows) they would be shown to be liars.

Speed, alcohol and drugs will be the main focuss of these sessions! Well speed rarely causes a crash! Alcohol yes it is a high risk activity and has been shown us such, and drugs well marijuana shows a decreased risk over the general population and as such is just a lie, while drugs like ICE, GBH and others that destroy the brain are not tested for, so even though they might present a risk (need research) it doesn't matter.

But the real risks such as poorly maintained roads, trees, poles, speed camera's and other objects on the sides of our roads which are the main cause of energy release will be virtually ignored becuase the goverments don't care about lives just votes.

And then some of the main issues with driving will be ignored too, such as patience, courtesy, respect for others and mateship (love) that give you a reason to drive safely will not even rate a mention.

And I'm sure many crashes on our roads are caused by cars that are not maintained in a safe condition! Even organisations like Department of Labour, Workcover, Worksafe, Comcare do not maintain their vehicles in a safe manour but becuase the focuss is on speed and the Safety Institute is an uneducated bunch of rabble they can't even recognise the risk of a poorly maintained vehicle.

Just to give an example of these safety bodies and their ignorance of safety go and look at government vehicles tyres that are comming close to the 40,000 K mark and you will see a lot of them have bald tyres on them! Exactly now with bald tyres speed will become a factor as they have little grip especially if it rains.

But these are the people running safety in this country and we have to listen to their lies or we are banned. I guess Fiji learnt from the Safety Institute of Australia if someone speaks up about a wrong then they are banned, makes the safety institute no better morally than Fiji's army so how can we critisize Fiji???

But the safety field will make heaps of money out of these lies so it will continue!

I believe Women Drivers are shown to be absolute liars.

In another Medical Journel of Australia article which was based on research in W.A and NSW has shown that men, younger drivers and metropolitan drivers were more likely to use their mobile phones while driving.

Well just stand in a town or city street and watch, just about every young female driving will be using their mobile phones!!!!

So this research is absolutely floored because it relies on people answering a survey honestly and women have not done this by visual evidence.

Light Drinkers take sickies

Well there is an uproar by the Medical Journel of Australia becuase those light drinkers are more likely to take a sickie than someone that is a problem drinker!

These guys have no understanding of people and behaviour do they!

I would say that light drinkers are responsible and if they have had too many the night before they don't want to put others at risk on our roads or in the workplace!

That is great stuff by these people and problem drinkers don't give a stuff about anyone else's safety so drive to work and place many at risk becuase of their high blood alcohol levels.

And now we have doctors and insurance companies complaining about the sickies by light drinkers!!!

Yep they want to force them into high risk behaviour of driving to work and working under the influence of alcohol by shaming them.

I tell you this if these people don't take sickies we are going to see a far greater cost than the $473 million a year paid in sick leave as we will have multiple deaths on our roads (especially with no alcohol testing in the morning) and in our workplaces which we know will cost far more than the sick leave taken.

Road Safety - Alcohol

It's ironic that all this drug testing is going on with no evidence that using something like marijuana increases the risks, in fact the small amount of data shows the opposite that marijuana use actually decreases the risks when driving so it's a revenue raising exersize.

But worse still we know these laws are made by those drinking alcohol so that the focuss is taken off something that shows it is a high risk such as alcohol.

And even worse the laws should take all regular alcohol drinkers off the road! Yep it has been shown that regular drinking of alcohol shrinks the brain and effects the cognative abilities of a person, therefore it is not only when they are over the legal limit they present a high risk but when they drink regularily they present a higher risk.

Yet this farcical society will attack low risk drugs that show no risk whatsoever and ignore the real issue and that is alcohol. Last weekend over 200 people were over the legal limit for driving under the influence of alcohol in one location in QLD alone so it is these people that are pushing for drug testing of safe drugs to take the resources away from finding them.

Again I state is someone is a regular drinker their brain shrinks and as such they present a high risk on our roads and should be taken off the roads! But they don't even do random breath testing in the mornings when it is obvious there would be more people driving over the limit in the mornings than at night when most of the testing is done!

For example most people will not drive when drinking at night, which is responsible but then the next morning when they are still over the limit they drive to work!!!! But they know they can get away with it becuase their is rarely any alcohol testing in the morning, in fact I have never seen one in the morning anywhere!!!!

Driver crushed to death unloading truck

A TRUCK driver has been crushed to death by a load of steel at an Adelaide scrap metal factory.

Police said the man was killed at about 9am (CST) today at the Normetals Pty Ltd factory at Ottoway in Adelaide's north-west.

The 33-year-old was unloading one tonne of steel from his semitrailer when the accident happened.

A MAN was electrocuted as he worked in an air-conditioning vent of an electrical goods supplier in central NSW.

The 26-year-old contractor was working on the roof of Kaye's Electrical in West Dubbo about 1.30pm (AEDT) when the accident happened.

"The police were called to the scene of the accident yesterday afternoon but we still can't release the name of the man," Inspector Dave Minehan of Dubbo police said today.

"WorkCover are conducting their own investigation into this matter and we are preparing a report for the coroner."

Electromagnetic Radiation and Radiofrequency Radiation are two of these that are currently growing expotentially in exposure levels as society becomes ever dependant on electrical appliances, mobile phones, pda's and the like.

Standard for electric fields being drafted

THE Federal Government has devised a draft standard on exposure to electric and magnetic fields amid concerns they can cause childhood cancer.

The standard, released today by Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA), specifies that limits for public and occupation exposure at extremely low frequencies (ELF) are between 0Hz to 3kHz.

The standard applies to ELF fields from powerlines, electrical wiring and electrical appliances in the home, and electrical machinery in the workplace.

Dr Colin Roy, director of the non-ionising radiation branch of ARPANSA, said the study was designed to protect against health problems caused by ELF magnetic and electric fields after some studies linked them to childhood leukaemia.

"There is insufficient evidence to prove there is a link, but we've seen there was a need to develop a standard which involves a requirement for a precautionary approach," Dr Roy said.

Now it's going to take a lot of guts for those developing this new standard as it could effect the revenues for places like Children's hospitals and women's hospitals where babies could be for long periods of time.

There is not only the high electricity loads for objects such as MRI's and the like but also the revenue being raised from Mobile Phone Towers and Radio Transmittors place on their roofs for payment of monies.

As I said this standard could upset a lot of area's but our children's health and safety should be the priority not money.

Another death that could have been prevented with better road design.

It's quite clear that in heavy pedestrian areas, there is a high need to stop the interaction of pedestrians with motor vehicles. We cannot depend on lines, traffic lights and the like as people walking will often take the shortest route, especially when in a hurry.

So we need to design in physical barriers to prevent people crossing the road and design tunnels, bridges, dead end roads and the like to allow a safe crossing. That is engineering controls to remove the majority of risk! Could say all but there will always be one that jumps the barriers or whatever to cross.

Elderly pedestrian killed

The 90-year-old, from the inner-northern suburb of Dickson, was hit while crossing the city's busy Northbourne Avenue in the CBD about 1.45pm (AEDT) this afternoon.

'Serious' side-effects for ADHD drug

A DRUG used to treat children for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, has had some serious psychiatric side-effects, a study shows.

The Federal Government's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has been assessing the drug Strattera, which will be available widely under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, Fairfax reports.

Strattera was the probable cause of one child's explosive mood swings and erratic behaviour, including an attempt to open the door of a moving car, according to the TGA.

It also implicated the drug in aggressive outbursts by a 12-year-old, in which she ripped out her fingernails.

The TGA has identified 23 cases of probable or possible side-effects from Strattera.

They include suicidal thoughts, agitation, and serious physical problems such as growth retardation, weight loss, chest pains and swollen testicles.

Strattera is to be added to the PBS, reducing its price from more than $140 at present for a month's supply to $29.50, or $4.70 for those receiving a concession.

About 2000 Australians had taken Strattera, 1400 of them children, since its launch in 2004.

How many Lives has Marijuana Testing Saved in Victoria?

Well it's obvious given the statistics and scientific evidence shows that marijuana use actually decreases the risks of a road accident! (given ACT data) Making those using marijuana less of a risk of a serious accident than the general population!

So the only thing that has changed with the road toll in Victoria is? Nothing!!! The government is on another economic windfall with it's propaganda and they can now sell drug testing kits all around the world to all those other people in safety that influence government but show they have no understanding of the science of safety becuase they choose to focuss on something that shows little evidence of risk!

Wasting tax payers money and resources which would be better spent redesigning roads and focussing on a real risk such as alcohol!

I suppose with only 314 deaths this year they will claim they saved 4 lives but we know vehicle design has become increasingly focussed on safety so given that we can say that vehicle design reduced the road toll by an estimated 20% but the governments ignorance wasting resources on furphy's like marijuana and speed in real terms increased the road toll by 20% making the road toll not change.

Motor Vehicle companies should be up in arms about this blatant dissregard for the science of safety!!!!!!!!!! It makes the motor vehicle manufacturers look like total idiots becuase the $Trillions spent on safety design looks to be making no difference to the road toll (a total waste of money) and it's all becuase of this blatant revenue raising by legislators and road safety experts focussing on speed and drug testing instead of improved road design.

Recycled Water

I am totally against drinking recycled water for health and safety reasons!

There is no reason why it can't be used in industry and the like but drinking it is a definate health risk.

Now if you had a car repaired by an unqualified mechanic you would be taking a risk, right!

So if we have unqualified safety personnel running the safety systems of these treatment plants we are taking a bigger risk, right!

Now if the body claiming to represent those safety personnel allows members and worse still Fellows and Chartered Fellows in without qualifications then we have increased that risk expotentially becuase the leadership of the Safety field sets the paradigms that are going to filter down to the workplace where we also might have unqaulified safety personnel.

Therefore the risks to people drinking recycled water is enormous because of failures in the systems controlling that water, it mighten happen overnight but it will happen.

It won't be until the Safety Institute of Australia removes all unqualified members, fellows and chartered fellows that safety will be truly professional.

And given we need a qualified mechanic to work on our cars it is far more important that we have qualified personnel in Safety and especially the leading body the Safety Insitute of Australia.

SPEED has killed again.

Emergency response personnel are angry and bewildered following the early morning death of a married 37-year-old father-of-one yesterday, just a fortnight after three young lives were lost in a high-speed crash at Mountain Creek.

The man's Holden Commodore had been travelling south on Duporth Avenue at speeds estimated to be in excess of 100kmh when it slammed into a power pole.

The accident happened just before 4am and left the car wrapped around the pole in a sickening sight of destruction.

The man's family has made a formal request to police not to release his name.

Focussing on speed as has been done by the police, polititians and media has created this situation and they only have themselves to blame.

This article and the full article highlight just how wrong this focuss on speed is becomming!

You might think what's he talking about? Well in the workplace would give people and understanding of all the risks in the workplace! Well in a progressive forward thinking organisation that probably doesn't exist but we try!

But on the roads this approach is not followed through becuase the focuss is on justifying the revenue being raised with speed camera's and the like.

But when we look at the roads it is very rare that speed alone causes an accident or death in this instance. In fact if we were to break this accident down we would see that there were other factors such as the pole, which transferred the energy to the occupants! (should note that it appears to me the car was going to fast)

So if we teach the young to focuss on the hazards/risks such as poles, trees, objects, head on traffic and pedestrians they migh understand that speed increases the energy and therefore the risks, instead of thinking speed kills and going out on a back road and seeing it rarely does which only discounts the focuss on safety.

And any red blooded young male will go out at some stage and see how fast the car goes so if they know how to understand the risks and reduce as many of them as they can when they do it, they will ultimately save lives but if the focuss is on speed at the detriment of understanding the other risks involved then safety fails everytime.

Knowing human behaviour, especially that of those that are male and young, shouldn't we also understand that we need to provide a place for free where they can go and have a hoon around with risks controlled as far as possible??? I believe every driver should at least once test the limits of their car so they have an understanding of their limits in an emergency but our current road safety legislation doesn't give people that oportunity legally.

Shark Attack

Bit dissapointing that the shark will not be hunted down as it attacks humans once it will know it can do it again.

It's a wonder how a shark attack even makes the news considering how often you would have a workplace incident where a kid gets his leg ripped off! Why can't we see kids being carted to hospital from the workplace??

how many thousands a year would loose a leg at the workplace?

and yet we have a couple of shark attacks and the make front page when there is very little we can do about them, yet if the published the workplace incidents all the time them maybe would have the public pressure (voters pressure) to do something about it and start reducing the workplace toll.

Attack shark won’t be hunted down

The Department of Fisheries has virtually ruled out capturing or killing the shark that severed a teenage surfer’s leg near Esperance.

Fisheries incident co-ordinator Tony Cappelluti said that even if search teams spotted a shark they would be unable to tell if it was responsible for the attack. White pointers were only killed if they were an immediate threat to beachgoers.

Fifteen-year-old Zachary Golebiowski was body surfing about 7.30 on Saturday morning at Wharton Beach, east of Esperance, when he was savaged by a white pointer estimated to be more than 4m long. The lower part of his right leg was bitten off during the attack.

A Fisheries officer and members of Esperance’s Surf Lifesaving group spent yesterday at Wharton Beach scouring the water for sharks. An aerial search was also conducted but no shark was sighted.

A decision would be made today on continuing the search but Mr Cappelluti stressed it was precautionary rather than part of a hunt for the shark.

He said the possibility that a shark would be killed after the savage attack was extremely remote. “They’re a protected species and unless we’re sure the shark has just been involved in an incident or was creating an immediate public threat (we wouldn’t make that choice).”

He said people should not panic. They were probably more likely to drown than be the victim of a shark attack but they should avoid swimming in the early morning, while bleeding or close to animal waste such as bait or whale carcasses.

Skater's downhill ride ends in tragedy

A FRENCH tourist is dead after a daring downhill skateboard ride went horribly wrong at Alexandra Headland yesterday.

Thomas Debois, 24, suffered serious head injuries in a fall on Pacific Terrace about 3.15am.

Traffic on the well-used connector road was brought to a standstill while a group of people, believed to be friends of the dead man, tried to help him.

Mr Debois had lost a large amount of blood by the time the ambulance arrived and died three hours later in Nambour Hospital while staff were trying to stabilise him for an emergency trip to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Road Safety -Buses and Coaches

Seems we have an unqualified Safety Institute of Australia member, fellow or chartered fellow in charge of coach safety in SE Queensland.

An independant investigation by myself has shown just how pathetic safety is in the bus and coach industry.

Of 8 Coaches supplied by a large organisation in Queensland for our school children 3 were defective in safety, yet they have great safety systems on paper and the Safety Institutes slack attitute allowing mates in power with no qualifications is showing in Audits becuase they don't pick these defects up.

In fact with the Safety Institutes lack of professionalism in allowing unqualified people in the audits wouldn't even look at the following issue becuase they have no knowledge and becuase they have years of experience , when an incident occurs they will blame the bus driver/coach driver and probably include speed, instead of focussing on the safety person responsible for not knowing enough.

of the 8 coaches investigated 3 of them had defective seat belts! One had seat belts that couldn't plug in becuase the buckle was jammed, one had twisted seat belts and one the seat belts didn't retract (making them useless in an accident).

And these were supplied to school children.

The safety institute has a lot to answer for in keeping their mates in power at the expense of safety becomming a true profession.

Although in Queensland they only need a 5 day course to be classed as a safety officer which is pathetic and shows just how little the legislators really care about safety by allowing this farce. But at least it's better than the Safety Institute of Australia who don't even require qualifications, in fact they ban those with qualifications to keep the corrupt unqualified people in jobs and allow them to keep killing people becuase of their incompetence.

The Safety Institute of Australia should be prosecuted for negligence next time one of it's unqualfied members have a death in the workplace to stop this corrupt behaviour.

Blackhawk Helicopters

So another Blackhawk helicopter has gone down and killed a brave soldier!

These things are old pieces of junk and yet we allow our kids to be flown around in them, just waiting for more of them to die at anytime! When you think about it a car is made to last 13 years, a helicopter is made to last far less!

The Australian government can carry on all they like about refits but the subframe and structure are not replaced so we expect people to die and hope not too many.

But the worst thing is they are going to replace them with used helicopters from the U.S.

What a load of crap our defence force personnel are obviously not worth much when the Australian Government won't even buy new helicopters but used one's!

I believe our defence force personnel deserve the newest best helicopters as they are the bravest people who are protecting our freedom daily but the government just wants short term votes instead of long term safety!

Gardasil Vaccine

As a arthritis sufferer I have seen the false promises for products like Viox, enbrel and others and then after 30 years we see the long term effects of heart attacks and strokes and the same will go for our daughters with this new drug that has been brought in corruptly by corrupt polititians.

How about the polititians disclose just how many $millions they are getting for introducing a country wide vaccination!

And even in the short term we are seeing there are already adverse effects such as reactive arthritis! And the rates are double the normal population without the gardasil!!!!!!!!!

I tell you there are many that will wish they had cancer and died than lived with reactive arthritis, from experience and in this society of Australia where discrimination is rife among those who are percieved as not normal they will loose hope becuase of the discrimination, you just have to look at the Safety Institute of Australia and the way they protect those that lack committment to prove their competence and yet ban those who spent 10 years of nights proving they are competent.

And then you have to ask why is the government not letting the public know the side effects of gardasil and not letting the public know about the reactive arthritis?????

And guess what with reactive arthritis there is a high probability in 20 or 30 years they will also have heart problems related to reactive arthritis!!!!

And when something like gardasil effects the immune system like that you can be assured cancer rates in other areas will also escalate.

John Howard and his mates have been shown to be totally incompetent with the AWB scandal but if you believe they didn't know what the public servents were doing in Iraq then you are stupid they controlled the royal commissions terms of reference becuase they knew they were guilty of corruption themselves and gardasil will show to be the same. In 30 years we will find out how much Mr Howard and his mates recieved for infecting our female children with this drug.

Suicide

I often wonder how many suicides are recorded as road accidents or workplace deaths but even without that information for it would only be speculation the recorded suicide numbers in Australia are high enough to reflect our stigma to this.

I guess this issue borders on the imaginary line in the sand of what is workplace health and safety and what the employee takes home. It also depends on how many in the health and safety field actually believe mental and spiritual health is important or relevant.

In defence we can offen directly link a suicide with the work activity, this is the nature of the work these brave people do. (that doesn't mean we don't try and improve things, especially on the spiritual side when dealing with death).

But in other instances work may not be the direct contributor or a range of different variations between the two extremes.

But not doing enough about those factors that are contributed from workplace or could be, is a reflection on the stigma of not wanting to know.

But we are in health and safety and if we don't want to know about the issues and factors contributing to suicide then we shouldn't be in the field of health and safety.

A reflection of not doing enough, or maybe just listening enough is:

How Australian Politians plan to kill off the poor!

Well John Howard and his mates aren't satisfied that the poor have no chance in this country of changing their circumstances, the poor cannot afford to get an education for instance 2 grand for a basic TAFE course with no help, they cannot afford to heat their houses becuase of the price of electricity, they cannot afford to get jobs becuase they can't afford clothes, their children can't get educated even public primary schools have enormous fees, they cannot get hospital treatment to get them healthy enough to work, they can't afford dental treatment which worsen's their health and they can't afford to eat properly which if in poor health just makes the situation worse.

Now John Howard and his mates want to increase the price of drinking water by 30% so they can't drink and die!!!!!

Isn't it disgusting they make a big deal of supplying drinking water to poor countries but want to kill off the poor in this country by making it impossible for them to have fresh water to drink.

Disgusting, murderers is all I can say and I pray the Lord works in the lives of those that can't afford to drink water so they see the salvation in the Lord before they die of dehydration or complications from drinking dirty water that these rich people most probably won't see becuase killing people is a sin and we know the rich getting to heaven is like threading a camel through the eye of a needle. Very few of them will be able to bow down low enough to get through the needle.

To those that are poor turn to Jesus and your death will be for his purpose and you will recieve more than this life can offer and the rich will pay for their sins.

Risk Taking Behaviour and Toxiplazma parasite

If we had an educated and qualified Safety Institute of Australia we might have more research into things like the Toxiplazma Parasite!

This is a parasite that is caught from cats! It can also be caught from eating undercooked meat. It lives in the persons brain, or any mamals for that matter.

But the interest to Safety and especially those that focuss on behavioural safety is with the way it slows down our reaction times!

Research overseas into first blood donors shows that reaction times are greatly decreased in all those effected with the parasite. Further research into motor vehicle accidents showed that those with the parasite were twice as likely to be involved in a motor accident reflecting the slowed reaction times.

With the U.S. showing rates of infection of around 50% of the population and I suspect Australia would be similar rates.

These rates are actually higher than those drinking and driving!

So do we ban all drivers infected with Toxiplazma Parasites or do we design our roads removing energy release points to protect people from a loss of control???

Seems pretty obvious that the roads need to be redesigned and we cannot depend on behavioural controls, if we are to focuss on behavioural controls it looks like we need to ban at least 50% of the population from driving a motor vehicle.

But then if we had a real Safety Institute in Australia it would be dedicated to researching these issues but as it is an mens club exclusive to those that only care about their own careers at the expense of Safety becomming a profession research of this nature will not happen, in fact many of the chartered fellows, fellows and members are unable to undertake research becuase if the could they would definately be qualified and leading safety into a profession.

OHS Pay rates in Australia

Hay's Recruitment have released their latest income survey results and again it's a shame that OHS is recognised as the poor understudy of Human Resources, when it is far more than Human Resources and HR actually should be part of OHS not the other way round. I guess if the Safety Institute of Australia doesn't care to get it's leaders with qualifications how can OHS be recognised as a profession???

Sydney a safety manager is on average $100K, while in Melbourne it is $90K, Brisbane and Perth $80K

While a safety consultant average pay in Sydney is $75K, Melbourne it is $65K and lower in other states, with Queensland average of $55K highlighting it's lack of priority given to OHS personnel, reflecting the lack of qualifications needed in that state. Even with it's better than average employment growth, the legislation only calls for a five day WHSO course and in fact the 5 days is recognised above 15 years of qualifications reflecting the influence the Safety Institute of Australia and it's lack of recognition for real tertiary qualifications.

With the civilian death toll in Iraq exceeding 200,000 from the two gulf wars in Iraq and the war expected to last at least 30 years who is the real terrorist???? As there is no evidence that terrorist attacks on the U.S. came out of Iraq and there were no weapons of mass destruction found even when we have satalites that can read number plates, then I would have to say definately the U.S and it's allies are the real terrorists.

Queensland is highlighting to me the results of the disgusting attitude of Safety Institute of Australia and how the SIA allows Members, Fellows and Chartered Fellows to exist without tertiary qualifications. Sure they say 30 years of qualifications is not long enough for them to get qualified most probably becuase they haven't the knowledge or skills to complete a four year course over a 30 year time period.

And the reflection of uneducated Safety Personnel (can't call them professionals as they haven't a qualification to be recognised as a professional) is clear in this lovely state of queensland.

In the last 4 months, within a 100km radius of the major captital city there have been people injured or killed undertaking what any Safety Officer worth anything would have detected and prevented in such incidents as:

Man dies after being run over by backhoe

A MAN has died in hospital after being run over by a a backhoe in Brisbane's north-western suburbs.

Police said the 61-year-old man was loading the backhoe onto a truck in McGinn Road at Ferny Grove at 4.30pm (AEST) yesterday.

He drove it onto the truck, got out of the cabin and had gone to the back of the trailer to secure it when it rolled down and ran over him.

The backhoe continued across the road, hitting a house and damaging it, but there was no-one home at the time.

The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious injuries but died at 8.15pm (AEST).

About time the Safety Institute of Australia recognised how it brings the whole safety industry into disrepute and stops OHS being recognised as a profession becuase of the slack attitude towards qualifications and allowing unqualified people to vote on issues regarding qualified people who have proven their competence!

Nuclear Power is not the answer

Well one of John Howards mates has been given a cushy assignment after setting up Telstra for sale then leaving. Dr Switkowski has a PhD in Nuclear Physics but I totally dissagree with his recommendations in the latest report to have up to 20 Nuclear Power Stations!

I especially dissagree that it will reduce global warming! Sure there might be a significant reduction in greenhouse gases from the actual facility but as Dr Switkowski has no environmental qualifications or experience I see the report as being totally biased becuase of his lack of knowledge of the environment.

My belief contrary to all those like Al Gore making huge dollars out of stating the popular, is that global warming is being caused more by the heat generated from our ever demanding needs of energy. And nuclear power plants generate enormous amounts of heat which will only add to global warming.

So not only do we have enormous levels of heat generated from the nuclear power plant itself, we also have heat being generated from all the devices relying on that energy generated from the power plant.

The only way we will reduce global warming is to actual reduce our needs of energy!

And the added risk with nuclear apart from the increased heat being generated is the devastation to the environment from spent fuel rods.

Don't let the polititians pull the wool over your eyes and allow more and more energy to be produced, creating the heat that is leading to global warming! And when they pay $millions for a spin doctor like Dr Switkowski who hasn't even any environmental experience or qualifications, you know they are lying or covering up something!

Drug bust just before schoolies week

A MAJOR drug bust has taken $357,000 worth of ecstasy and cocaine off the streets of the Gold Coast just days before the annual schoolies celebrations are due to get underway.

Police said detectives and drug squad officers raided 20 homes on the Gold Coast today, arresting 11 people on 66 charges including trafficking, supply and possession of dangerous drugs.

Three men charged with trafficking in ecstasy and cocaine will appear before the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow with the other eight expected to appear in the same court on November 30.

Detective Superintendent Brian Wilkins of the State Drug and Property Crime Group said the seven-month Operation Echo Zenith had seriously disrupted the supply of ecstasy and cocaine on the Gold Coast.

"This operation has dismantled a major drug trafficking and distribution syndicate operating within the southeastern region," Det Supt Wilkins said.

"The closure of this operation was particularly timely as recent intelligence indicated that the ecstasy seized was destined for distribution at the forthcoming schoolies festival."

Schoolies celebrations are due to get underway on Friday.

Acting Detective Inspector Marc Hogan of the Gold Coast District CIB said there would be similar raids in future to break up the development of drug networks.

Villagers tried to chase away the elephants by beating drums and bursting firecrackers, but they “tore apart a hut with the family inside”, village elder Dhiren Gadak said by phone.

The elephants, confronted by shrinking forest cover and human encroachment on their turf, have increasingly strayed into villages, searching for food and attacking people.

During the past fortnight, elephants have been wreaking havoc in Assam, especially in villages where tribals brew rice beer.

“We've reports of several incidents of elephants going berserk looking for rice beer, plundering granaries and tearing apart huts, and killing human beings,” said elephant specialist Kushal Konwar Sharma.

Elephants killed 239 people in Assam in the past five years, while 265 elephants have died during the same period, many poisoned by angry humans, according to official figures.

Assam has India's biggest Asiatic elephant population, estimated at 5300, according to a recently released wildlife census.

Once if you were down and out you could always afford to go back to a TAFE College and gain skills that could help you back into the workforce. Not these days though, I'll give evidence of me, as a pensioner it will cost $1995 at TAFE to get the Cert IV Workplace Assessment and training, no discounts or government assistance.

So what hope do you have????? Exactly none, nada, zilch!

So now they want people that are struggling to go into debt to get a TAFE Certificate. I guess John Howard knows our pain! Crap!

David Hind, who heads the Business Higher Education Roundtable, today also called for tax breaks for Australian businesses that offer traditional apprenticeships or whose employees enrol in full-time TAFE study.

Mr Hind was speaking to the heads of Australia's TAFE colleges who are meeting in Adelaide for their national conference this week, where the skills shortage is top of the agenda.

He said expanding the HECS and FEE-HELP Loan Scheme to vocational education and training (VET), along with higher apprentice wages, could entice more young Australians to take up traditional trade careers.

TAFE students pay upfront fees to enrol in their courses, while under-graduate university students are able to pay back part of the cost of their degree through the HECS scheme once their income reaches a certain level.

"I believe we should advocate HECS for VET, and FEE-HELP,'' Mr Hind said.

''(But) not to replace government funding as they unfortunately have done with HECS at universities during the past decade.''

HECS had not proven to be a disincentive for lower socio-economic students wanting to study at university, he said.

Mr Hind said offering tax breaks for businesses could encourage them to provide their employees with greater skills.

"I believe we should encourage governments to make it easier for employers to ... integrate skills development for their employees,'' he said.

"Particularly ... tax breaks for fulltime TAFE study, and traditional apprenticeship incentives.''
Australian business for some time had under-invested in training employees, he said.

Mr Hind urged TAFE colleges to become more flexible and innovative in partnering with private industry, warning they could not rely solely on government funding.

Department of Education, Science and Training deputy secretary, Jim Davidson, told the gathering there would be major problems ahead in replacing the TAFE workforce, as many staff would retire in the next 10 to 15 years.

South Australia Drug Testing Motorists

Well here we go again another state government has realised the awesome revenue they can raise from drug testing motorists without any evidence it presents a risk.

I especially focuss on the 13 people that tested positive for cannabis use! Evidence out of the ACT shows that those using cannabis have a lower risk of a fatal accident than the general population showing cannabis use actually reduces the risks on our roads.

But further Swinburne Uni has been undertaking testing of drivers and you can be sure if they found any evidence to suggest using cannabis and driving presented any increased risk we would have surely heard about it by now.

This is just a blatant revenue raising tactic brought on by the uneducated in safety drug testing for cannabis in our workplaces. A complete waste of money and resources that could be better spent on reducing the risks in our workplaces and on our roads.

If safety is a science we would need to show evidence of a risk and in the case of cannabis the opposite is currently obvious but while we have uneducated people leading the Safety Insitute of Australia they will choose this sort of strategy to hide the fact they know very little about health and safety.

60 drivers test positive for drugs - police

MORE than 60 drivers tested positive to drugs in the first round of state roadside testing, police in SA said today.

Releasing interim results in the drug testing trial today, Assistant Commissioner Grant Stevens said 3424 drivers were tested between July 1 and November 12.

Of those, 34 tested positive for methamphetamines, two tested positive to MDMA, 13 for cannabis and 14 to a combination of drugs.

Officers also detected 46 drivers over the blood alcohol limit but said no motorists tested positive for both drugs and alcohol.

"Although we are not yet half-way through the 12-month drug driver testing trial, we are producing results that indicate drug use is occurring amongst some drivers," Mr Stevens said.

"We consider driver drug testing to be clearly in the interests of road safety and we want drivers to know that if they use illicit drugs, or exceed alcohol limits they are likely to be detected."

Mr Stevens said police were pleased with the support from drivers for the tests and said most were patient and happy to co-operate with the five-minute roadside testing process.

Trucks crush man to death

A MAN has been crushed to death between two trucks in a workplace accident in Victoria's north.

Police and officials from Worksafe Victoria were at Crystal Ice and Cool Stores, in Garsed Street, Bendigo after the incident about 4.30pm (AEDT) today.

"A man has been crushed between two trucks," Worksafe's construction and utilities division director Geoff Thomas said.

He said a police investigation was under way but it appeared one truck hit the man, which wedged him against another truck that was reversing nearby.

"He was in between the front of a truck that was being backed into a loading dock, and another one that was outside waiting to come in," Mr Thomas said.

"He has been hit by the second truck."

Mr Thomas said there were no witnesses to the incident and the man, who was aged in his 50s and lived in the Bendigo area, was found by a workmate.

"The ambulance was called but it was unable to help," he said.

Mr Thomas said it took the number of traumatic work-related deaths in Victoria this year to 22, and he issued this reminder.

"Always be aware of the circumstances you are working in," he said.

"And for employers and workers to constantly keep a close eye on known and potential hazards in their industry."

Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali over reaction

I've commented before in regards to the total overeaction to the Sheiks comments on rape. Sure I don't agree that it is the women's fault and women shouldn't have to cover up but why are we judging so harshly? I mean the rapists don't get the sort of attention as the Sheik and he only made a comment based on his beliefs.

I for one would like to hear more of what the Muslims believe in so we can be all aware of what to expect from that culture.

But to put things into perspective, I will use the analogy of a shop/store and security.

It is totally wrong that people will steal from a shop/store but does that mean the shopkeeper does nothing to prevent theft just because it is wrong? No he puts in security measures. They could be anything from a small camera, locks on the door to full on security service in larger stores.

Now the same goes with women in our society. It is totally wrong that they can be rapped or attacked, it shouldn't happen but it does! So does that mean women don't do anything to protect themselves??

Dressing sensibly is one approach that should be discussed! Too much pornography on t.v. with women dressed in nothing or just barely dressed, women walking down the streets in sexy lingerie and the like is not conjusive to a save environment, especially where there a men that are sick enough to rape a women.

But the approach at the moment is lets attack anyone that makes a comment, while women feel they have the right to walk around in nothing.

And the worst part is they only wear nothing or next to nothing to attract attention to themselves so they can feel good that someone noticed, and then the sick person notices and the consequences are disgusting.

So a bit of responsibility on what a women wears is not asking too much is it?

Marijuana the truth behind it being illegal

How can this occur??

I've been through three pain management clinics now and all have recommended in one way or the other Marijuana for pain management, in preference to morphine, valium and antispasmodics.

I won't take morphine as after 3 years I found it makes me agro, and valium makes me like a zombie and as I have prostate problems and had drill up the penis to pee again I cannot take antispasmodics becuase they effect urination.

As such I am struggling totally with pain. The worst part is that the testicle they cut open and stretched to remove epididamel cysts causes so much pain it makes it hard to get an erection and be intimate with my wife.

So I was struggling mentally with the fact that the recommended medication is illegal and had the psyciatric crisis assessment team drop in becuase my doctor was concerned that I was so down.

Bonus I'm not insane or anything like that as when I explained the pain the psyc workers actually cringe becuase they couldn't handle the thought of having the ball bag cut open and the testi stretched 6 inches down so they could cut it open and remove the cyst.

They were that effected by the fact that I need pain relief they told me which pub to go and score from and then they even mentioned another person who was an ex police officer and told me to go and see him as he would know where to get marijuana for some pain relief.

I haven't the money for one and I struggle with it's use as a Christian and it being illegal as the other so it's not possible to follow their advice at this time.

Isn't it ridiculous though that the polititians have been paid so much money by the pharmacutical companies to keep such a useful drug illegal!

I would love to be able to go out and afford to get some legal pain relief but that won't happen becuase of the corruption in our political circles that keep it illegal. They would preffer I used morphine a highly addictive drug that stuffs not only your kidneys but your life!

AUSTRALIA'S unemployable have apparently given up looking for work.
A dramatic slump in the number of Australians actually "in the jobs market" last month has helped the nation's unemployment rate to dip to a 30-year low of 4.6 per cent, 0.2 per cent lower than the September figure.

In Queensland the unemployment rate is now just 4 per cent, a figure almost unimaginable even two years ago.

Such historically low figures effectively mean nobody should be out of a job, economists said yesterday.

They speculated that the fall in the participation rate was a result of a band of "disillusioned jobseekers" having just given up.

Now this is a well orchastrated ploy by governments supported finacially by big business in this country to make it look like people don't want to work so they can import workers and lower wage rates!

I can give a clear example of how this works through my latest experience.

I went to Centrelink to ask for help getting back into the workforce becuase of my illness and employers being totally discriminating against people with an illness that require modifications to hours of work and the like.

Now Centrelink referred me to an employment agency called steps and then they set up an interview in the Steps office. But here is how corrupt they are, Centrelink staff actually conducted the interview in the Steps employment services office and making out the were Steps Employment Support Service workers but the shifty corrupt government workers undertook a reassessment of my illness possing as Steps workers when they were actually centrelink staff.

This is crap, you go and ask for help and they play games with your life.

But further, this so called support agency Steps writes to my doctor asking for evidence of my illness and dissability!

What sort of approach is that???? Certainly they could write to the doctors and ask what sort of assistance they could offer or what modifications would need to be made to assist me back into the workforce would be more supportive.

But no they just call you a liar, even after being on the pension for soooo many years and having so many doctors reports already. So now I have to get more things cut out of my body for tests, undergo more x-rays (20 odd at the one time), see specialists and the like instead of getting assistance back into the workplace.

But it's clear it's about keeping people disgruntled and not looking for work so they can lower the wage rates by importing workers from overseas.

Road Safety - Jet's Law - A can of worms

legislation introduced earlier this year that requires patients to report immediately to Queensland Transport medical conditions that could affect their ability to drive, rather than at licence renewal, has opened a can of worms.

Lets see someone that cannot go a week or two without alcohol is surely an alcoholic in my book and alcoholism is definately a disease that not only could but does effect their ability to drive! So every drinker that drinks say more than 20 times in a year, in this state needs to report their alcoholism or they are in breach of the legislation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remove these drinkers licenses I say as they definately have a disease as has been shown alcoholism is a disease and it is a well know fact that alcohol and driving have a dramatic impact on our road tolls every year.

What really gets me is why aren't booze buses out in the mornings when all these heavy drinkers are driving the next morning after a heavy night????

Wow if all these alcohol drinkers obeyed the law and reported their condition as the Legislation requires the roads would be much safer becuase in Australia and Queensland in particular it would remove the majority of drivers from our roads.

Now you've made this law please enforce it so I can have empty roads to drive on!

FAMILY members of an infant killed in a car accident two years ago are pushing to have the boy's name linked to legislation cracking down on patients who should not be driving for health reasons.
Jet's law – as it is likely to be known – would follow on from state legislation introduced earlier this year that requires patients to report immediately to Queensland Transport medical conditions that could affect their ability to drive, rather than at licence renewal.

It is expected the legislation would further strengthen medical reporting conditions and possibly require doctors to report affected patients.

Bosses the worst workplace bullies: survey

BULLYING in the Australian workplace is alive and well and the boss is usually to blame, a survey has found.
The email survey of almost 2000 people, by recruitment firm Talent2, found 40 per cent of workers had been bullied, with 73 per cent naming the boss as culprit.

The problem was worst in the legal sector where 83 per cent of workers said they had been bullied, but just under half the workers in the public sector and human resources said they were bullying victims, Talent2 director John Banks said.

The ACT and Queensland had the highest rates of bullying, with 50 per cent of survey respondents saying they had been victims, followed by South Australia (41 per cent), NSW (38 per cent), Western Australia (35 per cent), Victoria (33 per cent) and Tasmania (20 per cent).

But the bad behaviour by bosses was mostly in the form of emotional rather than physical abuse, Mr Banks said.

It could range from threats of dismissal unless an employee performed work outside their job description to more subtle forms of bullying, such as favouring one employee over another for perks and promotion, Mr Banks said.

"It can take many forms, depending on the type of business,'' Mr Banks said.

"But, generally speaking, good leaders don't need to bully.''

He said two decades ago employees were more deferential to their employers and supervisors than today, but angry outbursts in the workplace were common.

"You very rarely see that these days,'' Mr Banks said.

"Screaming and shouting in the workplace and demeaning them in public is an absolute no-no now.

"I'm sure there are managers who know their employees' weak spot and will focus on and use that to their advantage.

"But that's not going to make their employees feel any better and it's not going to get the discretionary effort required from the employee - particularly in this day and age because employees will walk.''

James Hardie I told you so! And the polititians are in bed with them

Wow James Hardie has managed to suck in the Asbestos victims again with more false hope about funding for those dying of asbestos related disease.

I wonder how much James Hardie is tipping into political funds to allow all these extensions and the Unions must be getting kickbacks as well for them to keep protecting these murdering criminals!

Lets think about a fund worth over $4 Billion! with payments being delayed again and again the interest being generated will leave James Hardie with a profit out of a fund set up to help dying victims that would be enormous, it's no wonder they can afford to keep the polititians and unions quiet about non payment to those who most need it.

If unions were fair dinkum about protecting workers they would have moved internationally to shut down James Hardie and force them to support those they have maimed and killed and their families before the sufferers died. They would also be putting enormous pressure on governments to persue these murderers in court and have them thrown in jail at the very least for industrial manslaughter or if serious for murder becuase deliberately killing people for money is murder.

But again they must be getting some kickbacks becuase everything is quiet and all is positive about James Hardie even though they keep delaying the funds and the more people that die before they implement this fund the less they have to pay out.

And when we look at this hypocritical world where it moves to hang a leader of a country like Iraq for killing 148 people because they were considered enemies, then James Hardies entire board of directors should be hanged for killing millions around the world for nothing more than profits.

But I guess that's the corrupt world we live in, if you have the money to pay of polititians and unions you can kill whoever you want and if your the U.S. and want control of oil in Iraq you can kill off hundreds of thousands of civilians and get away with it.

Enouraged to suicide Australia does it more discretely but does it!

I have seen first hand how Australia pushes hard to get the poor and ill to suicide! We can take the Safety Institute of Australia as a starting point, an organisation that is suppose to be supporting health in this country but bans people with an illness that prevents them from working. Their one intent is to get me to suicide and leave them alone, but Jesus prevents that in my life.

Insurance companies were the same and after 3 years of battling their corruption the Lord had me walk away and put my trust in him to provide my and my families needs but these insurance comapanies and the Victorian Workcover Authority would have rather me suicide than highlight to the public the cruel, corrupt organisations they are.

The only people that have any empathy for the poor and ill are those who are suffering alongside us as the following article highlights. Australia is no better, just look at the suicide rates and when you have been homeless with a family and ripped off by insurance comapanies, trampled by a Safety Institute of Australia that is suppose to care about health, including mental health, you realise it's just a image that the SIA and the rest care, they don't care they just want to look after themselves and make money.

All I pray now is for Jesus to return quickly so this corrupt uncaring world will be judged!

Suicide bid sparks punch-up

A YOUNG woman's rooftop suicide bid in Germany sparked a mass brawl between spectators encouraging the 21-year-old to jump and a group of homeless people trying to protect her.

The homeless people were angered when some teenagers in the crowd of hundreds started yelling to the woman she should throw herself from the roof of the town hall of the southwestern town of Loerrach, said police spokesman Dietmar Ernst.

"The homeless people started shouting at the kids not to say that, using some strong language," Mr Ernst said. "Morally speaking though, the homeless people were in the right."

A punch-up involving around 40 people then ensued, during which time police managed to coax the woman back indoors - three and a half hours after her ordeal began.

Some 35 officers, six of whom were injured during the fight, were needed to break it up. Eight participants were arrested, most of them school children aged between 16 and 19.

Mr Ernst said he was doubtful that the brawl, which involved at least one girl, had stopped the woman from jumping.

"She was about 70m up and probably wouldn't have seen much of what was going on," he said.

Australian Senate moves to legalise murder of babies for profits of the pharmacutical companies.

Now I feel I am one who would benefit health wise with stem cell research but to kill babies to do it is beyond logic.

God makes it clear that life starts at the moment of first conception, the moment the sperm enters the egg!

But Australians have moved that far away from God that they now consider murdering babies acceptable so that pharmacutical companies can make huge profits out of any treatments that can be derived.

This is disgusting! And highlights just how acceptable murder is these days as long as it makes a profit, just look at James Hardie as an example.

But killing workers for profits is one thing, killing inocent babies is just beyond reason, even if they make heaps of money out of it.

Tower Life Insurance will rip you off and spit you out!

I feel it necessary to warn all about Tower Life Insurance as they are spending heaps on advertising these days. You don't see a day of television where they are not advertising one of their products in some way or the other.

This insurance company is a rip off and will not pay you out and support you like they make out they will, so don't insure with them!

I was in hospital undergoing a bladder neck incision to urinate again, when the Victorian Workcover Authority sacked me becuase as I was in hospital then recovering there was no way I could reapply for my position.

I have described workcover and TAC before so will not go on how they all claimed each other was responsible for my condition and none paid anything saying it was the other insurance companies responsibilty. None of them claimed I didn't have injury/illness that prevented me from working they just claimed it was the other insurance companies responsibility.

But I had income protection insurance and permanent dissability insurance with Tower Life.

Now I know from experience that Tower Life Insurance will not support and provide the security they claim!

Tower Life refused to pay out on permanent dissability, even though to this day I still not able to work in any gainful way.

But the worse part is that I had income protection insurance, which if they paid like they claim would have allowed me to keep the house and probably prevented a seperation from my family.

Sure Three Years after I was off work they paid me 3 months worth of income protection but that was 3 years later and they wouldn't pay anymore becuase Workcover had sacked me so they only paid to the date of my dissmissal.

They are a sick money hungry organisation that will not support you or provide the income protection they claim. In the 3 years the bank had taken the house and sold it out for a pitance, we had seperated, and I had treatments I could not afford. Everything they paid out 3 years later went to solicitors payments, which I probably wouldn't have needed if they paid when they stated they would.

Don't waste your money with this or any other income protection or life insurance becuase they will keep it and watch your life self destruct hoping you will drop the claim and in the end for you sanity and family health you will have too.

Again DO NOT INSURE WITH TOWER LIFE!

The first-ever Drug-Free Work Week (October 16-22, 2006) was a big success, with organizations across the country implementing innovative ideas to help reinforce to workers the importance of being drug free to improving workplace safety and health.

Drug-Free Work Week was a collaborative effort led by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the members of its Drug-Free Workplace Alliance, a cooperative program focused on improving safety and health in the construction and mining industries through drug-free workplace programs. Alliance members helped with the distribution of Drug-Free Work Week materials, published articles in their member publications, and helped facilitate local-level training and educational activities. During the week, they also convened at DOL’s National Office to renew the Alliance agreement and set priorities for the coming year.

Employers and employees in all industries, not just construction and mining, were also invited—and answered the call—to participate in Drug-Free Work Week. Individual organizations conducted a range of activities, ranging from simple, such as putting up a workplace display, to more comprehensive, such as implementing a drug-free workplace program.

What a load of crap! Displays make for a drug free week! Imagine if they spent the money wasted on this crap on actually engineering out risks in the workplace!

Oh that's right their not really interested in saving lives and preventing injuries, they only want to win votes and blame workers.

All the time the pollies and managers are sitting there drinking their alcohol, drinking their coffee and the like, no such thing as a drug free week and they know it!

Water summit 'appallingly weak'

The summit agreed to draw up contingency plans to secure water supplies for the next water year, beginning on June 1, with a working group of state and federal public servants to report back by December 15.

The Commonwealth has also agreed to speed up the implementation of proposals under the National Water Initiative, with permanent interstate trading to begin between NSW and Victoria on January 1 next year.

CSIRO has been asked to report progressively by the end of next year on sustainable yields of surface and groundwater systems within the Murray-Darling basin.

Water and climate change issues already are on the agenda for the next Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting next April.

The summit's outcome was weak, even appalling, and would do nothing to address the crisis, Greens senator Rachel Siewert said.

"What we've seen today is a talkfest by the governments of Australia with no real commitment to action on water," Senator Siewert said.

Speed blamed for fatal P-plater crash

POLICE have blamed speed for a car crash which killed a 16-year-old boy and seriously injured three other youths.

The crash happened near Newcastle, just two weeks after the horrific crash near Byron Bay on the NSW north coast that claimed the lives of four teenagers.

In the latest crash, the 16-year-old boy, a rear-seat passenger, died when the car hit a power pole at Tingara Heights, south of Newcastle, about 2.45am (AEDT) today and split in two, police said.

Two 17-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl - all three from Windale - were taken to John Hunter Hospital with head injuries.

Two of the teenagers were thrown from the vehicle on impact.

Police say they are unsure who was driving the car and are investigating whether the driver was licensed.

One report has said the dead youth was joyriding with three other teenagers before the crash at the intersection of Violet Town Road and Regent Street.

His grandmother has said she is devastated by his death.

"I just feel so lost. I just was hoping he'd walk back through the door (and that) it's all been a mistake, but it's not going to happen," she said on Channel 10.

"I don't know how anyone survived it, they must have been going at one hell of a speed because it (the wreckage) was mangled."

Police said the Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit was investigating the incident but that "early inquiries indicate speed was a factor in the crash".

It follows the deaths of Corey New, Bryce Wells, Paul Morris, all aged 16, and Mitch Eveleigh, 17, on October 22.

The four were killed when the car left a straight stretch of the Coast Road and struck trees at Broken Head.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man died when the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a rock wall near Singleton, north-west of Newcastle.

The crash happened at 5.45pm (AEDT) yesterday on the Putty Road.

Two small dogs travelling in the car suffered minor injuries and were taken to an animal hospital for treatment.

Water Crisis!

Seems to me that there is a simple answer to providing more water!

With industry making up the biggest users of water and drinking water making a extremely small percentage of our water supplies there is a simple answer.

Capture the water in our cities that fall on concrete buildings, footpaths and roadways! New buildings could be constructed to use the water as ballast below car parks.

While the contamination of the water by pollution, epecially from motor vehicles would make it unsuitable for drinking it would be perfect for industrial uses and in cooling towers!

There is that much water running off from our cities that I'm sure industry surrounding the cities could be adequately supplied with catchments under our cities, maybe we could strengthen current underground car parks and turn them into dams at not to much time and cost.

This could prevent the need to dam our beautiful rivers and flood people's households.

It would surely go a long way to evening up the responsiblities between country and cities with cities having to catch water as well as those in the country.

The current study is just one of many that have looked at this controversial topic. While most research has found that circumcision reduces the rates of HIV (the virus that causes AIDS), syphilis and genital ulcers, the results are more mixed for other STDs.

While these researchers refuse to look for God for answers they will never understand the stupidity of their statements!

The STD rates do not drop becuase of circumcision!!!!!!!!! They drop becuase the people who are circumcised have usually had this done so becuase their parents had faith in God and so these men have been brought up with strong moral and ethical foundations based on Gods word!

Uncircumsized men are usually because the parents were angry with God or didn't believe in Gods word and as such have a poor grounding in valuable moral and ethical responsiblities.

One teen dead, three hurt in crash

ONE teenager was killed and three others critically injured when their car hit a power pole so hard the vehicle split apart on impact.

Emergency services were still at the crash site, south of Newcastle, this morning.

I ask the question what is wrong with the statement that it hit a power pole so hard the car split in two?

Highlights to me that poles are not made to shear at the base as statements have been made before!

Second it highlights that the designers of roads are guilty of not removing or mitigating risks as far as possible by placing power poles where they can be hit by an out of control vehicle and release the energy needed to kill!

Third it seems they are designing poles stronger these days or making them out of stronger materials to save money on replacing poles at the expense of the motorists lives! They should shear off in a high speed impact.

Although if we comply with the hierachy of controls this is one risk that can be totally illiminated by placing the lines under ground! And as this is a workplace for many those that design, fund and manage our roads should be guilty of manslaughter for failing to comply with a simple principle in safety, the Hierachy of Control and instead focussing totally on behavioural controls.

Saddam to be hanged but who will judge George Bush?

I do not believe we are to kill, even if that is Saddam Hussein. I guess there is enough evidence to suggest he did kill 148 Shi ites but wasn't he sovereign over the country? If so how could he be breaking any laws?

World opinion seems to suggest that it is not acceptable what happened I'll grant that but if we hang him then are we not guilty of the same offences that Saddam committed?

And to see all these people jumping around in joy that a man will be hanged just highlights that many of us are just as hungry for blood as Saddam appears to have been although Saddam was responding to a cue.

But if Saddam is guilty of killing 148, what about George Bush and his coalition of the willing? And lets remember they invaded Iraq on a total lie based on weapons of mass destruction that didn't exist!

The most common cause of death is as a direct result of violence, mostly caused by coalition air strikes, reveals the study of almost 1000 households scattered across Iraq. The figure of 100,000 – estimated by extrapolating the surveyed households’ death toll to the whole population - is based on "conservative assumptions", notes Les Roberts at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, US, who led the study.

That estimate excludes Falluja, a hotspot for violence. If the data from this town is included, the study points to about 200,000 excess deaths since the outbreak of war.

Now given that George Bush, John Howard, Tony Blair and mates have directly killed over 100,000 civilians to gain control of oil and capture Saddam who wasn't found guilty of anything at the time, shouldn't they face the same prosecution as Saddam as their crime was far greater than 148 percieved enemies of the then state, their crime is against civilians! And we can then add military deaths estimated at 2835 U.S. soldiers.

Seems the richest country can get away with murder, just as the richest organisations can get away with killing their workers.

What is meant to be is meant to be and the time will come when all will know the truth.

How to tell if a Safety Institute of Australia member, fellow or Chartered Fellow is incompetent?

That's easy! They will purchase a safety management system instead of developing one that suits their organisation! They will also focuss on controlling behaviour, instead of mitigating risks!

And it makes it even easier when their lack of knowledge and education allows them to believe the hype and purchase the Du Pont crap safety management system that focusses on behaviour.

And the enforcement agencies are in the same boat as they cannot recognise that the DuPont System and others that focuss on behavioural control DO NOT COMPLY WITH LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS TO CONTROL RISKS USING A HIERACHY!

Hopefully one day Safety Institute Members will be prosecuted for impersonating a professional!

The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health - America’s Dangerous Employers
This report describes 12 cases of companies whose reckless disregard for their employees’ safety and health has had tragic consequences.
These companies have been able to act with such negligence due to a lack of adequate sanctions from governmental regulations or public oversight.
With the goal of preventing future tragedies, this report announces a new National COSH campaign, “Stop Corporate Killers” which will call for an overhaul of the regulatory system to ensure that workers realize the right to a safe and healthy workplace that the Occupational Safety and Health Act promised.
Each year workers in the U.S. suffer tragic consequences from workplace injuries
and illnesses. Current data from the federal agencies directed to track workplace injury and illness tell a grueling tale: Federal sources document that an average of more than 16 worker deaths occur each day. In addition, roughly four million workers are seriously injured each year. Another 60,000 workers are estimated to die each year as result of exposure to hazardous materials in the workplace.
Most of this toll of death and injury and illness is preventable.
Particularly alarming is the data related to the most vulnerable people in the
workplace – youth and immigrant workers. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health [NIOSH] estimates 70 youth [less than 18 years old] are killed each year at work, while the rate of workplace fatalities for workers of foreign descent has increased steadily for the last five years.
Each case of workplace death or injury needs its own analysis to determine the
exact causes and prevention methods. We do know some companies that have
particularly bad track records in health and safety. This list is meant to create public
accountability for worker health and safety.
Unfortunately, there are more offenders that space can provide on this list but these cases can serve as examples for the need to make companies more accountable in our society.

3. DuPont Corp. – The DuPont Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of chemicals, has carefully crafted a public relations image as being the “benchmark” for safety in industry.
They sell their trademark “STOP” safety program to other companies reaping over $100 million in revenues from their misdirected program.
The STOP program is a behavior-based program founded on the theory that almost all injuries are caused by worker unsafe acts. This contradicts the current approach of health and safety professionals that identifies hazards and unsafe conditions as the principle causes of workplace injuries and illnesses.
In fact, DuPont has achieved such record breaking numbers in safety by a
coordinated program of intimidation and underreporting of injuries and illnesses. A long history of citations by OSHA and EPA has dogged the company reputation.
OSHA cited DuPont for record keeping violations in a landmark case in 1998 for not reporting 117 occupational injuries and illnesses at their Delaware facility.
They have continued to build this legacy by getting cited by OSHA again for recordkeeping violations [July 2004] and violation of federal law for not providing health and safety information to the union under the National Labor Relations Act [June, 2004].

What needs to be done in the Safety Institute of Australia so we may be a recognised Proffesion!

just to express why the need for critical analysis a lot of the time. There are a number of needs for this approach no matter how unpopular,
• one being the need for accountability, without critical analysis weaknesses cannot be examined to become strengths. Those things that stand up to critisim’s are worth continuing with, those that fall down with criticism or are found to be weak, need to be examined and built up.
• Another weakness in the health and safety field is the inability to allow creative expression of thought. There are so many ideas and experiences out there that they need to be shared, not only to the safety profession but the workforce as a whole. The ideal of consultation is just that at this time with the workers and at times managers kept in the dark in regard to incidents that if allowed to be shared can be examined and future leaders in safety gain valuable experience from. But also the informed workforce can also be a far greater influence on their own and those around them, health and safety.

From those experiences being shared creative solutions to health and safety can be developed. Creative ideas can be far from the norm but serve a valuable purpose as the then allow the norm to be expanded.

But I believe health and safety is being held back by the lack of courage and confidence by the profession and the professional body as a whole to enhance the concept that Health and Safety is far bigger than is currently the paradigm and until the profession and especially the professional body the SIA radically shift the paradigm occupational health and safety will always remain considered by the majority as a small part of Human Resources, which I believe it is far more important than that.

Currently OHS is restrained in most organisation
By nearly all departments that fall under the guise
Of Human Resources, you can even add recruitment
The CEO, Board of management, shareholders
And a few other departments that restrain OHS in the
Importance stakes when it comes to priority. I have
Even seen health and safety be drawn up as a small part
Of emergency management.. Will show one day when
It’s long enough.

Sure there are some organisations that claim they see OHS more progressively and have it higher in the importance stakes. If we are really going to move health and safety into a true profession we need to change the paradigm.

First we need to understand and believe that health and safety is far bigger than it currently is.

• If we just look at the Occupational health and start to understand the scope of what that means we can see it just doesn’t mean exposure to some substance, or repetitive injury or the like but it encompasses:
o The physical – that is the exposure or repetitive injury. And even when we break down exposure we see limitless branches we can take for exaple. Exposure can be to a substance, which can also be classed as an exposure to an energy if we focuss on the physics of it all. Or it can be an exposure to fibre such as asbestos, which most of us are familiar with. It can be exposure to a impact but I don’t want to go into the science of it all. I want to focuss on the scope of what health means and that can also mean psychological again that can be an exposure if we look at it in detail and spiritual and many more aspects of the health field.

And what is occupational? Is it just what happens in the workplace or does it also include what happens outside the workplace that can effect the person in their occupation?

Then we come to safety and would could expand even further. And so because this is a blog not a funded research paper I have to leave it short of all that good research stuff and show what the paradigm of vision of a safety profession should be in my eyes.

How can this be achieved???

I haven’t all the answers that’s why we need to think out aloud together to critically analysis all thoughts and have input. But with international communication in the Safety field stifled by behavioural control advocates making too many rules and policies to stop creative thought and ideas, also political correctness gets in the way a lot.

But I do believe we first need to work hard to become recognised as a true profession and how to do that is clear to me looking at other professions and that is to prove our competence and raise the minimum level of the health and safety industry to a recognised standard.

That being a tertiary education for any member of the Safety Institute of Australia. But further for Safety to actually have the standing and the recognised competence to achieve what I believe to be it’s rightful importance in the workplace with life being the main reason we have industry. (I believe God gave us that industry to help us) We need to then recognise that life is what we need to protect. Therefore we need the Safety Institute of Australia to take the strong stand and bring health and safety into a recognised profession by:

• Members - Need to have at least a Diploma in a Occupational Health and Safety Field, not just health such as a nurse or doctor. And demonstrated 2 years experience in the field of OHS. Or a Postgraduate Diploma.

• Fellows – Need to have at least a Masters or Postgraduate Diploma and at least 10 years OHS experience. No way should Fellows be allowed to be there just on experience as they haven’t demonstrated competence in the field as would be the understood definition in the English dictionaries.

• Chartered Fellows - Should reflect the standing of what it means and be PhD in the field of OHS! Or have a masters and be working towards a PhD with demonstrated skills in leading OHS towards a truly respected profession.

And for those that say it has only been 30 years since Australia had a recognised qualification is a cop out!!! Most of those guys with there experience would have received a very easy passage through those qualifications!!! There could also be a student recognised entry to the SIA with an Ass/Student membership that allowed those without a qualification but years of experience to still be a part of the organisation and those studying in the field to also be an active part even though they haven’t the experience.

Untill the leadership of the Safety Institute of Australian stands up and shows commitment to make the safety field a profession, then it’s importance won’t be recognised as it should be.

But this won't happen becuase those that cannot be bothered are protecting their positions in the SIA at the expense of the profession and those that have the committment to gain qualifications with their experience.

To highlight this just look in the right hand side corner of this blog and you will see a brief of my qualifications and experience, It is only a brief becuase I have be provided with far more than what I can list on this blog!

But unqualified, corrupt (having husbands and wives or dads and sons running the organisation is corrupt as well as claiming you are a professional with out qualfications), slack and unprofessional people banned someone that has committed their life to Health and Safety and made the effort to prove competence.

Highlighting just how corrupt the Safety Insititute of Australia is! And this is reflected in the ever increasing death and injury rates in our workplaces. They haven't the courage or committment to get a qualification and that reflects in their lack of ability and committment to stand up for what is right and protect the workers and community.

BHP Should Be Prosecuted

THE world's largest coppoer mine, Escondida, has suspended operations for 24 hours due to an accident that killed one worker.

"(The accident) happened yesterday at 8:45am (2145 AEDT) and activities resumed today at 8am (2100 AEDT)," said Pedro Correa, a spokesman for Escondida.

He did not say whether the suspension had affected production at Escondida, which is controlled by Anglo-Australian miner BHP Billiton and was affected by a 25-day strike in August.

Now if BHP has an unqualified person in safety they should be prosecuted for manslaughter as they haven't cared enough about their employees to employee someone that has shown they are competent!

And if there is an unqualified safety person in BHP that person should also be prosecuted for claiming they are a professional when clearly they are not and haven't the dedication to actually go out and get qualified to become by definition a professional!

And if that safety person was a member of the Safety Institute of Australia, or any other safety body representing professionals in the field that institute should also be prosecuted for bringing the profession into disrepute by having unqualified people posing as professionals under the guise of the professional body.

The worst part is these unqualified safety personal cannot develop a safety management system and choose to go out and purchase a DuPont system or the like, which is a total failure in the workplace.

Saddens me when I see Safety Institute of Australia members, Fellows and Chartered Fellows going out and purchasing safety management systems but then that highlights the lack of knowledge from lacking the dedication and committment to safety to prove they are competent and get educated.

Homosexuals ordained in church - It's not Gods church then!

It sickens me to see that homosexuals are being ordained in churchs and the Angligan church seems to be leading the way for these immoral people to be spokesmen for Gods morals and values.

It's hypocritical to say the least as Jesus and God both highlighted the detestibility of the sins of those that poo jab each other.

It doesn't mean they can't be saved and forgiven for their sins! They have just as much ability and love from God to turn from their detestible behaviour and then ask forgiveness as I or anyone else has in this world.

But to say they are men of God when still undertaking this sort of behaviour and having no repentance from the sin, then they are liars as well!

A poo hole was created to extract the waste products from the body not have a penis shoved up it! A vagina was created to create life and in a marriage before God was designed to be pleasurable creating that life.

A dog will stick his penis in anything or rub up against anything to get his rocks off and that's what these homosexuals are doing, whats worse they corrupt a beautiful word like Gay in the process as the only time I see them gay is when they are in the mardi grass running around like perverts naked.

Gay ordination threatens to split church

PLANS to ordain a gay man threaten to split the Church of England in New Zealand, clergy were reported saying today.

The conservative group, Anglican Mainstream, is opposing the ordination of Juan Kinnear as a deacon in the southern city of Dunedin on Saturday.

Christchurch clergyman Reverend Malcolm Falloon told the Otago Daily Times the ordination could split the church and the group had written to the country's archbishops to have it stopped or postponed.

Bishop George Connor, who will conduct the ordination, accepted the move would be controversial, but said the Dunedin diocesan council were satisfied it was in line with past practice and the rules of the church.

Rev Kinnear was in a "committed same-sex relationship", he said.

The bishop said the issue of sexuality was currently being debated by the Church of England and "people of goodwill and deeply reasoned faith stand on both sides of the argument".

In September, members of the Presbyterian assembly in New Zealand voted to exclude homosexuals from becoming ministers or church elders.

NT Faces Speed Limits for the first time

With an Australian report in 2000 putting the cost of road crashes at $15 Billion approx each year (Road Crash Costs in Australia Report 2000) and the Northern Territory having unacceptably high death and accident rates something needed to be done to curb the road toll in the NT.

I am totally opossed to the ridiculously low speed limits being applied accross the country reducing the productivity of the country and costing $billions in lost productivity being used along with low tolerence to raise revenue without any real decrease in the road toll.

However I also do not believe that open speed limits are the answer as someone doing 250 km/h or greater not on a well designed race track is a risk far too high to accept.

As I commented and produced a report on the Workplace Health and Safety Forum I will not post it again but just raise some useful points for which I believe the NT government has based their speed limits on.

The first was that the most productive speed limit on our open roads in this report was 130km/h, where this speed was shown to not increase the accident or death rates but increase the productivity of the country by $billions. Over 130km/h accident rates were found to increase dramatically!

Well done to the NT government for focussing on what was the safest most efficient speed and not having the ridiculously low 100km/h speed limits of other states.

It would be good to see the NT government design a road with objects removed from the sides and sand traps or the like to slow speed/energy if a vehicle does loose control and have a main road through the middle of the state that could handle 160km/h with limited risks. As this is a large state/territory that is isolated this would seem to be of great benefit to people in that state.

It was also good to see the focuss shift to alcohol with drink drivers not automatically loosing their license until these changes! I'm sure that will have a major impact on reducing the road toll.

Demerit points are also another positive allowing repeat abusers of the law to be penalised in a severe manor (loosing license) while those that make a simple mistake can keep driving and learn.

I am spewing though I always looked forward to going for a visit to the NT and enjoying driving at a speed that was comfortable and fast, focussing only on the road ahead and not on my speedometer. Now there is no reason to visit the NT, although I hope one day that they design a road that allows for far greater speed than 130 km/h which would allow the enjoyment of driving again. But if it saves a heap of lives then I cannot complain.

Overall a big well done to the NT government for having a realistic speed limit and making an effort to remove drunks from the roads. I suspect the removing of drink drivers will have the major impact on the road toll but we will never know as all the changes will be introduced at the same time.

Maybe they could stagger the introduction of the new laws, with a 6 month or 12 month period between each to evaluate their effectiveness and if we found it was alcohol that was the dramatic factor in road crash reductions and speed had little effect we could reintroduce open limits in some areas.

Road Safety - Daylight Savings and Mr Beattie

Mr Beattie has highlighted how polititians will lie to win votes.

Having been a surfer all my life I actually preferred not having daylight savings so I could get a surf in before work and still make it to work on time.

However with small to medium business in Queensland at a distinct dissadvantage to the majority of states it is time to have a look at the lies keeping Queensland from having daylight savings.

Curtains will fade - Cracks me up everytime, the polititians are calling people dumb. And if they don't realise the curtains are exposed to just as much sunlight no matter what time they want to make it, then maybe they are.
Children can't sleep - My experience is that the children can play outdoors later in the day, enabling dinner to be cooked without interuption and the children being more worn out, hence sleeping far better.

Now we have the lie that it will increase skin cancer rates. However when you consider with daylight savings in place outdoor workers taking lunch breaks will have a break during the peak U.V. exposure period and hence more likely to reduce the rate of skin cancer.

But when it comes to really saving lives Mr Beattie ignores the truth for lies that will keep the votes of the farmers.

Studies have shown that daylight savings can reduce significantly pedestrian fatalities!!!! And also reduce vehicle occupant injuries!!!!

I am impressed with the quick action that Safeway has undertaken in regards to food contamination. Not often I would say well done but in this case it was a very quick response and the reaction in recalling all products and removing the rest from sale is impressive putting peoples health and safety above profits.

POLICE are investigating a contamination scare at a Safeway supermarket in suburban Bayswater in Melbourne after staff discovered some fresh produce contained foreign objects.

The store has issued a product recall where customers who bought fresh fruit or vegetables from the store today can return their goods for a full refund.

Safeway spokesman Clare Buchanan would not specify what the foreign objects were or the products affected.

“We're not in a position to discuss what the product is,” she said.

Woolworths Limited said in a statement tonight that the incident was believed to be isolated, affecting the Bayswater store only.

Unqualified Safety Practitioners

The cost of unqualified safety practitioners being recognised as competent by the Safety Institute of Australia continues to soar! Simple things like chemical fires would not occur if these people had the committment to safety to get themselves educated and qualified.

But becuase of the Safety Institute of Australia not requiring members to be professional enough to get a qualification we see incidents occuring that would be simple to control and prevent with a tiny little bit of education. But then I suppose they wouldn't ban those with qualifications and dedication to protect those unqualified people that stop safety being recognised as a profession.

Chemical factory catches fire

A BLAZE last night at a chemical factory north of Melbourne has been brought under control.

About 60 firefighters took about an hour-and-a-half to bring the blaze at JAL Chemicals in Raglan Street, Preston, under control.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) was called to the fire at the two-storey factory at 9.50pm (AEDT).

An MFB spokesman said crews were supported by aerial appliances, including ladder platforms, to attack the flames from above.

The fire was contained to the rear section of the factory, he said.

The spokesman said it was believed some people were in the factory at the time but no-one were injured.

Fire investigators were on their way to the scene to determine the cause but at this stage it is not deemed suspicious.

The cost of the damage is not yet known.

What a pathetic waste of money, consider the Prime Minister lies and decieves his way to spending $208 Million on advertising how good he is, $60 Million is an absolute joke!

It would be in the best interests of our children and childrens children to spend $Billions cleaning up the enviroment, $60 Million will just go to consultants and nothing will be done.

PM to announce $60m in clean energy grants

PRIME Minister John Howard is due to announce $60 million in clean energy grants today, but the Government said the announcement a day after the controversial Stern climate report is coincidental.

The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, released in London, warns of economic and climatic disaster if urgent action is not taken to tackle global warming.

Mr Howard has told MPs not to be mesmerised by the report and said what is needed is a long-term approach with cleaner use of fossil fuels, and employing nuclear and renewable energies.

Today Mr Howard is due to hand out $60 million for 42 clean energy projects across Australia.

Seems James Hardie has paid out some more huge bribes to polititians to protect them even further. It's sad that these executives killed hundreds of thousands of people and get off without any sort of prison term.

Killing people for profits is murder in my book and these people haven't had to face any prosecutions and the poor people left ill and dying are not protected at all by the governments of this country.

There can only be one reason they are not prosecuted and funds are not given immediately to the ill and injured that are still alive! Becuase the polititians take bribes of huge amounts.

Now polies aren't stupid, well they have people advising them anyway and the way these bribes would be given are hidden in ways such as making large party donations to the government in power!

Disgusting behaviour! Not only should the Executives of this organisation face prosecution for murder under criminal law, the shareholders should face huge penalities so that people start investing in companies that provide safe work environments instead of seeing huge profits obtained from killing people and getting away with it but the polititians need to also be prosecuted to for allowing this to happen and protecting the company that will kill up to 60,000 Australians.

Some blame also needs to placed on the Safety Institute of Australia for not requiring it's members to be qualified in the field, which is reflected in the safety practices of Australia's largest companies. If they had committment to get qualified then they might also have the committment to stand up for what is right.

But as is the case the SIA hasn't even the balls to remove all unqualified people from it's ranks and bring health and safety to the profession it truly deserves.

Hardie asbestos deadline extended again

THE NSW Government has extended until November 14 the deadline for James Hardie to finalise the funding deal for compensation for victims of its asbestos products.

The previous deadline expired yesterday with the building products company still to reach an agreement with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) over the status of the compensation fund.

The deal was thrown into doubt after a tax office ruling in June this year that the fund, worth up to $4.5 billion over 40 years, could not be treated as a charity for tax purposes.

The deadline for finalising the fund has been repeatedly pushed back from its original date of July 31.

Asbestos Diseases Foundation president Barry Robson today branded the two-week extension as "another rabbit out of the hat" and said he had little hope the deal would be finalised in a fortnight.

"I'm never hopeful dealing with Hardie. We've been down this road so many times over the last three years, we just don't believe them in anything they say or do."

Drink Drivers

Yes finally they are recommending engineering controls for drink drivers! Instead of just relying on Administrative controls with the fitting of 'alcohol ignition locks'.

Hopefully the Safety people that are making these recommendation have the knowledge, skills and qualifications to educate the polititians enough that they accept engineering controls over the vote winning administrative controls they have been focussed on for the last 50 years.

ALL motorists convicted of drink-driving would be forced to have counselling and alcohol ignition locks could be fitted to their cars under a clampdown on boozy drivers.

Police could also breath-test all occupants in a vehicle involved in an accident if they were unsure who had been driving.

After a year-long inquiry, Parliament's powerful all-party Travelsafe Committee has made 14 recommendations to toughen drink-driving laws.

Travelsafe chairman Jim Pearce said a third of drivers and motorbike riders killed on the state's roads were drink-drivers and a quarter were at least three times the legal limit.

"It's time for a much tougher line to be taken against drink-drivers, particularly the hard-core repeat offenders," Mr Pearce said.

"These people have a serious drinking problem and are not fazed by fines or losing their licence. They need help to tackle their alcohol addiction."

About 13 per cent of drink-drivers in Queensland are repeat offenders.
